Nancy Carner: Re: Mihaly Benyo
Thank you very much for your reply. I am beginning to look through the web sites you recommend but I feel like I am looking for a needle in a haystack! You are correct about my grandfather's first name; on the Ellis Island arrival sheet, it is spelled "Michaly Beny"; from the Church where he married my grandmother came the alternate spelling of "Benyo" but he was just "Michael" by then.

I was unaware of all the web sites you suggested relating to Slovak heritage/genealogy. Thank you very much. I am new to this researching.

Your welcome Nancy

Mistakes were made in spelling at the port of departure and then when the records were transcribed by EI Foundation volunteers. You might even find different spellings of the surname in the church records.
BENYO would be correct for Hungarian spelling of BEN^O - Slovak spelling.
Michal is Slovak of Michael

Nancy Carner: Beny/Benyo family
Thanks in large part to all of the help I received from my original posting, yesterday at my local family history library, I searched the film of church records from Andrejova; I was able to find birth information on my grandfather and each of his half siblings as well as a death notification of my greatgrandmother. I have to do some translating of Latin to English but hopefully I will be able to do that. Thank you again to all who offered help to me.

Nancy Carner : translations of headings
This is a very helpful site and enabled me to determine what info is given on the church records. But the handwriting of the responses is very difficult to read,
especially names. Still, I am much more informed than before.

Again, thank you for your help. Nancy

Nancy Carner: handwriting
Zlatica: Thank you for your generous offer. I am most interested in the names of the Godparents on my grandfather's baptism record. I can read the first names of Anna & Michel but not the last names. I will try to scan & post this to see if you can read the writing. It may take me a couple days to learn how to do that!

Thanks again, Nancy

Nancy Carner: Village of Minoycz
My grandmother named this village on her marriage certificate, though the country is not identified. I
googled it with no luck. She was of Slovak nationality but I think she was born in England after her parents emigrated; her father's name was Michael Berris & I believe her mother's name was Anna Bereszny (spelling may be incorrect). Is anyone familiar with this village or how
I can do more research?

Thank you.

inquire and obtain a copy of a marriage certificate for

Zlatica,

Thank you for your reply. I can order a film at my local
LDS with parish records for Saros region.

I did not understand your statement about viewing
Beloveza's church records on my computer screen; are
you saying these records are available online? I
tried searching the sites but could not get that
information.

Thank you again, Zlatica;

I followed your directions & came to the page; on Image 8,
there are names that may be my great grandparents, Michal Beny
and Maria Cseginy but I cannot be certain if I am reading it
correctly. I will go back and look again when I have more time
available.

Nancy Carner: Re: Beny/Cseginy marriage
Hello again; today in researching the Andrejova church records, I found my greatgrandparents names on 2 separate
pages but I cannot read the headings. On Image 7 of 114 the
writing looks like "Folysasas" or it may be "Tolysasas".
On Image 5 of the same lot, their names are on line 10 at
the bottom of the page but there is a long heading at the
top. Can someone help translate and/or advise what the
records are for?
Thank you again. I am most appreciative of help.

Nancy Carner: Re: Beny/Cseginy marriage
I found it! I found the record of the marriage,
Feb. 15, 1870 in Beloveza. I found the only
church for that town is St. Michael the Archangel.
Do you think if I write them a letter and send
some money they would send me a copy of the
marriage certificate?

Thank you again for your help.

Happy for you :}

I do not believe that there was a marriage certificate issued in the old days. The church record is IT. What you saw that is the marriage certificate.
