Vivian Kahn: Gereny or Garany?
I have an 1889 Szobrancz birth record listing Garanas as birth place for STEIF Fulop (Shraga Feivel). Also searching for NEUMAN from Garany. I have found Gereny, now Gorjany (Horjany) about 5 km southeast of Uzhorod. There is also a Garany in Zemplen. Which of these two places is likely to have been identified as Garanas in 1889?

I think that the Szobrancz and Gereny (both in Ung megye) would be more possible in distance than the Hran in Zemplen megye.
The village of Gereny / Gorjany is part of city of Uzgorod.
A listing for NEUMAN in village of Hlivistia which is North of Sobrance.

The village of Garany, Zemplen megye is now Hran,(Zemplin region) Slovak Republic (far from Czech Republic) and Kazsu is Kozuchov.
To locate Garany http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910
Locate Toketerebes and go South to Kazsu and Garany.
and http://mapy.atlas.sk for Hran.
The village Gorgr could be Gorgo and there is a Hrhov and Spissky Hrhov.

Your name seemed familiar so I did a www.google.com and located your family tree.
I am sure you know that surname DUC^ (Ducs in Hungarian) list in Kozuchov's phone book. One can also locate MILOSAR and DEME in this area code 56. The surname Ferancek in your site might be FERENC^IK.
www.zoznamst.sk (type a 0 *zero* in area code to get all the listings for a certain name)
www.iabsi.com/gen/public might be of some help in your research.
Your Berka might be Borka. www.fam.aust.com/topolcsany/names for first name translation.

Bodzasujlak, Zemplen megye, Hungary is now Novosad, Zemplin region, Slovak Republic.
did you pick up all your posts on this and Genforum board?
I left you a Lazarus site to locate the villages. The LDS-Mormons site is listing church records of Novosad.

I did not say that I know where the Reform church records are. I only provided the names of the villages in area of Hran that might have the records. You did receive a post from Kezdi to your question and he directed you to Bodzasujlak's church records. You also received a reply from John on Slovak Republic's Genforum board as where you might find the church records of SK on what fiche number.

p.s. I am not in Hungary or Slovakia.

bgames: Re: Garany/Gorgr
Zlatica,

Thanks. I have been directed to many location that MIGHT contain the reform records (such as Hardiste, Barancs, Trevisot, Kocise, etc). I have search through at least several sets of these recommended films thus far. I find it hard to believe that no one knows or has ever found or used these records? I'll wait until someone knows for certain where they are, from experienc eof using them. Even the Slovak archives does not know of these records.

John's recomendation is for the 1869 census and I have that already. Along with the map, and can pick neighboring towns myself if I want to wonder aimlessly through the dark. I am looking for someone that can give direction from experience with these towns records. I have used the gazetter he suggested with the same run around results.

I thought that this was a forum, where everyone can answer questions? Did not intend to be souly directed to you.

Wish I knew where to direct you. I have a RC and GC (schematizmus) site, which is only in Slovak, but that is all I have. I want to say that Kezdi's suggestion is precise. Might you attempt to reply to his post and inquire further for his knowledge about the church records?
