Could you please tell me if Koronco is in Gyor Or Moson County? I have seen it documented both ways.

Koronco is situated a few miles southwest of Gyor, county Moson. The village is about 1,000 years old and has about 2,000 inhabitants in current times. Koronco was a site of a battle lost by the Hungarians in the Kurucz war for independence in the early 18th century.

My Galgoczi family is from Koronco (1880s). Thank you. Nadine

I think it's pretty safe to say that Koroncó has been in Gyõr County for a couple of centuries.

I was just getting ready to research my grandfather's birthplace and do not know too much about Koronco. You are correct, as I looked at your other site. I have seen it documented so many different ways. Thank you so much! A few centuries do make a difference. Nadine

I have a couple of maps from the 1:75000 scale series of old military maps. This one is from 1896, showing Koroncó.

Thank you so much! Why was Koronco sometimes spelled Koronzo (with a "z") on some maps?

Koronzo might be a German spelling of the settlement name. When you pronounce Koronzo (German) and Koroncó (Hungarian) sound the same.
