| bkbalint: Fur and leather workers (Balint, Koszovics, Repiszky) | My Great-grandfather Stephen Balint was a furrier who came to New York in 1883 or so. His NY marriage certificate (his 2nd marriage) says his father's name was George; and I have found Gyorgy Balint, furrier, in Nagymihaly in the 1891 directory. Stephen's mother was Mary Kosovis (sic); probably from the family of the bootmaker Koszovics, also in Nagymihaly. One of the witnesses to the 1895 wedding in New York was another furrier named Andrew Repiszky, who I am guessing also came from Nagymihaly, where there was a leatherworker by that name.
Any information about these families or about fur and leather craftsmen in 19th-century Nagymihaly would be most welcome. |
