| Jude from Flushing: Re: Mermelstein - Munkacs fotos | | My father-in-law was from Munkczavo & his name was Issacher Dov, otherwise Bernard, nickname Berish, b. 12/11/1909. His father's name was Yisroel Hirsch. His brothers Max & Irving moved to US before the war. Berish had been a jewelry salesman, but he was in the Czech army & captured by the Russians, spending most of the war in Siberia. Afterward, he was a policeman in Prague when he married Etu Weiss. They had a son, Shia (Stanley), moved to NYC & had another son, my husband, Hesh. Berish became a wholesale meatcutter at the Bronx Terminal Market; after retirement he worked at his brother-in-law's package butcher shop in Clifton NJ and spend winters in Hallandale. He died of an abdominal aneurysm 1/15/85. |
