I am currently researching my family tree.
Szaffnauer ancestors originated from Koszeg. The name has been changed between 1856 and 1878. There is parentally many Saufnauer/Saufenauer/Szaufenauer can be found in the Koszeg's cemetery. If you have any information about the
any of the following names (Saufnauer/Saufenauer and Szaufenauer) in koszeg cemetery. Please let me know by email.

My fathers last name was saufnauer. he was born in koszeg.
his entire family is buried there.

Thank you for your information.
Since my last posting I manage to find my ancesstors (with the help of my relatives) in the evangelical church births and christenings records from 1769 at Koszeg.
The original name was Saffenauer Jacob birth date = 1769 Place = Guns (Koszeg)
His father name was Saffenauer Andreas birth date = 17?? Place = ????
His son name was Saffenauer Samuel birth date = 1795 Place = Guns.
I also found a lot of Saufnauer names in the same records.

My ancestors were Saufnauers from Köszeg. My great-grandfather Saufnauer Samuel. My grandfather was Ferenc Saufnauer, but he changed his name Soproni before the II WW and he moved to Budapest.
But my relatives (Saufnauers) live in Koszeg.

Do you have the birth date of your great-grandfather Saufnauer Samuel? What religions he belonged?
I got a the copy of Koszeg evangelical church record,
if you give me more information I can look at it up for you. Do you speak Hungarian?

The first Saffenauer settled in Koszeg was Andreas
Saffenauer around 1765 according the evangelical church
mearrige certificate. Andreas had 5 childrens
Joseph 1766
Jacob 1769
Michael 1772
Catharina 1774
Sussana 1776
The name Saffenauer later was enterd into the church records as Saufenauer and Saufnauer from Jacob's childrens.
Jacob's childrens birth in Koszeg:
Samuel 1795-1798
Franz 1798-1799
Sussanna 1801 - ?
Samuel 1807 - 1806
Michael 1807 (Remaind in Koszeg Sancz utca 334)
Samuel 1810 - 1849 (Moved to Sarvar)
Johann 1814 (Remaind in Koszeg Sancz utca 334)

I suspect that your ancesstor was Michael or Johann
on the list. I got the list of their children name
and birth date before 1852. I can give you the list
if you are interested.
My ancesstor Smauel moved to Sarvar and his chilren moved to Osztffyasszonyfa.
How far you manage to trace your ancesstors?
Do you speak Hungarian?
