| Cottagegirl: Re: Satchinez | | Matyas (Mathias) Fischer, affectionately known as Futty by my father, was my great great grandfather. All I knew before finding this site today was that he came thru Ellis Island. You mention his wife Katalin (whom I never knew or heard mentioned) Ironically, my 12 year old granddaughter is named Katilin!!!! They traveled with daughter Magdolna of whom I have a picture of but never knew her name till now. I have the original photo 8x10. It shows Matyas seated at left with one son standing next to him Again, I don't know the name. Next is Magdolna and next is another son. One of the boys is named Peter born June 29, 1884. Seated at the right side of photo is Matyas, daughter Margaret, My great grandmother!! There is a sister missing from the photo, my Aunt Kate. They indeed came to Adams, MA. to join his daughter Margaret and my great grandfather Nikolaus Debacher married on Feb 1, 1902. I have been tracing the Debachers from Lugosch, Hungary. Their family came over in 1894, 1896, and the rest of them in 1898. My father (now deceased) talked fondly of his time on the farm with his grandparents and Futty. As I write this today (what a LUCKY find) I am packing to take my mom back home to Pittsfield and Adams MA. this Sunday! We will drive by all the houses and the farm. It still exists as the original 40 acre farm on East Rd, Adams MA. My husband and I took a trip in May 07. I never knew Futty, but i did know my great grandmother Margaret and her sister Kate (wife of Josef Mecher) My widowed Gr Grandmother and her sister Kate and Uncle Joe shared a house till they died. I will be going to Matyas' gravesite next week. He is buried in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams, with daughters Margaret and Kate (Catherine Mecher), but not his wife Katalin. I would LOVE to hear back from anyone with any information. Thank you for making my day. |
