	filyron: Geneology Search Just today have found that in 1909 my grandfather using the name Mihaly Sztanrovszky, the original spelling is Sztavrovszky and his place of residence in Europe was Laborczfalva,Hungary left for the USA from Bremen Germany His ethnicity was listed as Hungary, Slovak. My grandfather was 17 yrs, old when he arrived in America. The records I have found through a fellow geneologist date back to 1822 are church records and I am looking for records dating further bank than that. I have found out that the name was created by the Russian Orthodox church in the Ukraine in the late 1600's SPECIFICALLY for the clergy. They took the Russian(Ukraine) surname for cross...Kressovskij...and converted to a Greek translation...Stavrovskij which evidentally was the original spelling. As you can see it has been changed drastically here. My birth certificate is very similar to the Greek translation Veronica Ann Stavrovski, everything except the j. We know that there are more than enough of them but still the best thing the EI foundation did is to put the manifests on the internet. Check the other SZTANROVSZKYs manifest. They were from Eperjes but the town was transcribed Eperjcs. In Presov's phone book a STAVROVSKA (female). www.zoznamst.sk Are you missing an ancestor? Look at Anna SZTANROWSZKI from Zaborczfala.
