Štefan Tiso
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Štefan Tiso was the lawyer, president of the Supreme Court of Slovak republic (1939-1945). He was also Prime Minister (replacing Vojtech Tuka), Foreign Minister (replacing Vojtech Tuka) and Minister of Justice (replacing Gejza Fritz) of the Slovak Republic 1944-1945 .In 1944 the leaders of the czecho-communist so called Slovak National council Šrobár, Ursíny, Lettrich, Štefánik, Šoltés and Zaťko were not arrested, but as the members of terrorist organization they were accused as traitors. When pro-czechoslovak members of the senate led by dr. Terebessy (in the 1929 and 1946 presides court against prof. Vojtech Tuka) sentenced those traitors for low penalties, Dr. Stephen Tiso propose simple change in process laws and Supreme Court formed new trial. Altough some historician presume that Dr. Tiso said to the judges who were to preside over the new trial: "The order is the death penalty. Who will not obey will be imprisoned". (“rozkaz je trest smrti a kto neposlúchne toho nechá zavrieť.”) this sentence is not based on real contemporary sources. Prosecutor in the proces have clear order from dr. tiso as minister of justice, ask the court the death penalties only for those members of group, which were no on territory of Slovak republic. In postwar process Štefan Tiso was sentenced to live-period jail, and dead in concentration camp on Morava probably in 1955 /there are no clear sorces, famile were informed about his death only in 1955/. Sentence and later live in jail was part of czechoslovakist plan for anihilation of Slovak fight for statehood. For example last prime minister of Protektorat Bohmen und Mahren Richard Bienert, which also in May 5th actively fight against Czech national uprising (when Czech and Moravian territories in fact was annected by Germany) was sentenced by czechoslovak court to 3 years in jail, and was released prematurely in 1947.
