There is one very interesting book “BAJMOK UTCANEVEI” from Mojzes Antal published in 2003 by Grafoprodukt Szabadka.
According to this book in cadastral records from 1904 this house was listed in Kossuth Lajos st. No. 35. and belonged to Holzhacker Boldizsar. After WWW I this street was renamed to Strossmayer st.
Another interesting detail from history of Bajmok is that first electric power plant was placed in this house in 1923.
The steam turbine was operating by burning coal. It was purchased from USA and was running only over night in order to provide electric light in houses. (115V).
It was shut down in 1953.
House was demolished around 1985 and an apartment building has been built on its lot.

The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) website is listing a Roman Catholic church records from Bajmok, Hungary/Yugoslavia.

Out of 13 Holzhackers that passed thru Ellis Island, 2 were from Bajmok/Bojmok. (Seems like the same person)
4 Holzhackers in Poland.

YES ….... BAJMOK is the same one.
But now belongs to Yugoslavia.
The old Bacs-Bodrog megye !!!!!!!

Regarding the 2 HOLZHACKERs in the Hungary's phone site at www.matav.hu/tudakozo I did found them.
Holzhacker Alajosné and Holzhacker Csilla.
I would like to contact them via email to found out if we are relatives somehow.

I would recommend that you send a letter thru post office with your family information / small family tree, include your e-mail and a photo of your ancestor for that extra visual aid and see what develops. You might get a letter in English and/or thru the internet.

horvntk: Family from Bajmok

I am looking for info on my great grandparents and their parents. They are Janos Horvath born 1882 and Mathilde Ansicis born in 1885. They lived in Bajmok in the early 1900's. They lived on a street called Cemetary Street across from a new cemetary. They had 2 children Ilona (Helen) and Daniel (my grandfather). Can anyone give me any information about this area of Bajmok?

Hi!

Yes I'm from Bajmok, and it's a place in former Yugoslavie (now Serbia and Montenegro).
I searched thru the telphone book but I didn't found anyone under Sprenz name.
I asked my parents and they asked around. According to them there where a Sprenz named man in Bajmok but he moved to Germany and he died there. But he has a son in Germany.
If you interested I can ask my parents, maybe they can get the address from him in Germany.

For the name Ansicis i'm not sure, there are in my street a family with family name Anisics. Is it maybe Anisics that you are looking for?

Interestingly, there are two villages in Germany that are
named Sprenz. There is Kline Sprenz (Little Sprenz) and
there is Hohen Sprenz (High Sprenz). These villages are in
northern Germany in the State of Mecklinburg. Also, I found a hotel in Oldenburg, Germany that is called the Hotel Sprenz.

I have learned that there are approximately 23 Sprenz
families worldwide. We have such an uncommon name, that I
am confident that wherever I find a Sprenz, that we are

As of the Anisics family name, there is a family with familyname in my street a few houses away.
Horvath is more common, me to have some relatives with Horvath family name.

I talked with the family Anisics that lives in my street and indeed they are relatives with Anisics Mathilde.

Anisics Csaba (the one who lives in my street), his grandfather Anisics Janos (born 1906) and Mathild are in brother/sister relation (from same father and mother).

Her mothers name was CLARA.
Was she related to your family somehow ?

My grandmother's name is Piroska Schaffer, daughter of Lajos Schaffer.

My stepfather was born in Bajmok in 1923. His father was Bela Mattyasovszky - who was the village doctor and dentist - and his mother was Anna. I am looking for any information on his parents. Herr Béla Mattyasovszky var ein sehr bekannter und beliebter Arzt in Bajmok, er behandelte möglich Alle und das Arzthonorar war auch je nach finanzielle Lage; "handelbar". Nach Trennung der Familie, die Ehefrau wanderte nach Amerika aus, blieb Herr Béla Mattyasovszky bis zu seinem Tod in Bajmok. Sein Grab liegt im (unterem) Friedhof in Bajmok....

If anyone has personal stories or knows families who knew Dr. Bela Mattyasovszky, I would appreciate if you would send them direct to my email - dawns -a-t- univins.com -d-o-t- Dr. Mattyasovszky's son (my stepfather - also named Bela) is in declining health and one of the things that gives him pleasure is hearing old stories about Bajmok and his family. He is no longer speaking English to us, but he does understand when we speak to him. I appreciate the posts I have already received. His eyes lit up when I told him about them.

Janos Nagy and Katalin Kantor (Eva Nagy's parents) are my great-great grand-parents. Eva had a brother Andrew who married Rozalia Paroczy. They had a son, Andrew, who married Victoria Czarev. Andrew and Victoria came to the United States. Their son William is my father.

Janos Nagy b. 18 Nov 1798; d. 15 Oct 1875 married Katalin Kantor b. 1804 d. 19 Mar 1866. Had six children that I know of. Paul, Mathias, Anthony, Maria, Eva and Andrew. Andrew b. 28 Oct 1840 d. 17 Nov 1884 married Anna Janda 1 Jul 1861. After her death Andrew married Rozalia Paroczy on 29 Jan 1866. They had nine children: Sandor, Maria, Simon, Mihaly, Janos, Etel, Petrus, Erzsebet and Andrew b. 15 Mar 1883 d. 9 Dec 1956 married Victoria Czarev b. 10 Mar 1889 in Zombor, d. 19 Oct 1946. All of the above events occurred in Bajmok (except for Victoria Czarev's birth). Andrew and Victoria did not marry until 27 Jan 1910 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Andrew and Victoria emigrated in 1905. Don't know exactly when but the youngest daughter says their first child was conceived on the ship coming over to the US. Their first child, Victoria, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 17 Dec 1905 so that would put them on the ship around March of 1905. They lived in Wisconsin for a while but eventually came to California where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Do you live in Bajmok? The only information I have on Eva Nagy is she married Michael Ruzsik on 11 Nov 1857. Can you tell me anything about her family?

Iwas born in Bajmok but now live in Australia with my family for nearly 40 years.
I only have information on Nagy Eva that she was born in 1839. She married Mihaly Ruzsik.
Mihaly Ruzsik was born 1830, and his father was Adam Ruzsik, do not have any close info on them.
Eva and Mihaly had a son Istvan Ruzsik who was born 1864 18th December.. He married Julianna Szabo in 1888 25th April. Julanna was born in 1871.They have two daughters Magdalena Ruzsik ( my grandma ) born 188922nd June in Bajmok and died 1979 10th February..The other daughter name was Maria and she was the younger one.
Magdalena had six children, Janos 1912, Maria 1913, Lajos 1918( my father ),Ilona 1920, Matilda 1923, Etelka 1925.
Magdalena's husband was Lajos Csernus who was born in Nemesmilitics in 1887 13th August and died 1925 22nd December.
I do not have acces to Bajmok,s birth and death registers.
How you obtain all this valuable information?

Ihave more information about Nagy's of Bajmok.
Nagy Pal ( Paul ) born 1823 , his wife was Bosnyak Johanna born 11th June 1826.
There is also Nagy Matyas, Nagy Mihaly and Nagy Gergely all born in 1826, probably related as cousins..
May be the above information is useful to you. I did not found any link yet..Unless Nagy Pal ( Paul )born in 1823 and Nagy Matyas ( Mathias ) born in 1826 are children to Nagy Janos and Kantor Katalin.

The LDS Church has filmed the birth, marriage and death records of the Catholic church in Bajmok. My information comes from the microfilm of these records. If you live anywhere near a Family History Center you can view them for yourself.

I am going to go back over my notes to see what I might have on Eva and Michael.

I have marasmus listed as the cause of death for both Janos and Katalin. My notes say Pal's wife was Maria so that doesn't agree with Joanna. It is possible Maria was a first wife and she might have died and he married her sister Joanna??? I don't know about Mihaly and Gergely. No doubt they most probably were cousins. I'll have to check my notes.

I have a John Ruzsik m. to Catherine (?) having a daughter Elizabeth on 27 Apr 1886.

I have a Martin Ruzsik m. to Theresa Paor having a daughter Maria on 18 Jan 1886.

Martin and Theresa also had a son Joseph on 1 Oct 1883.

I show a John Ruzsik and Catherine Kurucz having a son John on 26 Jun 1883. A son Victor on 1 Jun 1894.

I have Paul Ruzsik and Anna Kiss having
MICHAEL b. 11 Sept 1882
I have a Paul Ruzsik and Elizabeth HAJNAL having Catherine on 19 Mar 1882. Also, a son Joseph on 17 Jan 1881.

And a Lajos Ruzsik and Roza Bosnyak having a daughter Vilma on 5 Jun 1894.

I am missing a few years here and there as my house burned down in 1991 and I lost all my notebooks. I have re-done many of the microfilms but not the marriage records and I seem to be missing some of the death records. I don't know if they're in another notebook or I haven't redone them yet. I will have to check on that. I will leave you to put the above names into family groups. I'm sure they are all related to you.

My method of research entailed writing down anyone with the Nagy surname and then trying to put the families together. The only reason I wrote down the Ruzsik's is because Eva Nagy married into that family. I can't say 100% whether I wrote them all down or not.

The LDS has only filmed these records up to 1895 when civil registration became law. The records start in the very late 1700's. Have fun trying to figure them all out. If I come up with any more info I will let you know.

My mother maiden name was Nagy Piroska born in Bajmok. Her father was Nagy György born in Bajmok 1907. Nagy György father was Nagy Lajos born around 1885, we are not sure that he was born in Bajmok. His wife was Teknyős Ilona born in Bajmok 1889.
The family legend says that Nagy Lajos and Nagy Éva ( wife to Ruzsik Mihály ) are somehow related, maybe cousins?

We could not proved that yet, may be in your notes you find something abaout Nagy Lajos?

If this is true, that Éva and Lajos Nagy was cousins, than may father and mother are very distant cousins...

Paul Nagy (b. 1823) and Matyas Nagy (b. 8 Jan 1826) are brothers. My notes show a Mihaly Nagy being born to Stephen Nagy and Agnes Kiss on 3 Sept 1826.

On Apr 2, 1827, a son George was born to Martin Nagy and Clara Penzes.

I don't know if Martin Nagy and Stephen Nagy were possibly brothers of Janos Nagy?? If the three of them were brothers then Paul, Matyas, Mihaly and George would indeed be cousins.

The birth records filmed by LDS run from 1826 to 1895. So, any births occuring before then I have no access to. The marriage records run from 1826 to 1895 and the death records run from 1826 to 1895 with a big gap from 1847 to 1852. I guess that five year period between 47 and 52 were lost or something. I don't know.

Since the marriage records usually give the bride and groom's ages, I could approximate their year of birth. The Marriage records also listed the names of the parents which was very helpful if putting the families together.

Any events that occured before 1826 or after 1895 I have no record of.

I think I got Paul Nagy and Paul Ruzsik mixed up in my mind. Pal Nagy married Maria Bosnyak. I might add here that I hope the spelling of the surnames is right. The handwriting in those records is terrible and sometimes I had to guess at the spelling.

I hope you have a Happy Easter, too. If I come up with any other information I will let you know. I seem to have a big gap in my death records from 1826 to 1870. I thought I had re-done them but if I did I can't find them. I'll either have to go to Salt Lake City to look at the film or get them into my local Family History Center.

Nagy György was town representative in 1785.
Bosnyák Mátyás was town representative in 1788.
Bosnyák Mátyás was judge in 1811, 1812 and 1813.
Bosnyák Ivan was town representative in 1826.
Bosnyák János was town representative in 1834.
Bosnyák Joakim was town representative in 1840.

Bosnyák Mária born 15. August 1780, father Bosnyák Josephus, mother Ágnes.
Bosnyák Petrus born 25. June 1782, father Bosnyák Simon, mother Mária.
Bosnyák Nicolaus born 4. December 1785, father Bosnyák Joannes, mother Petronilla.
This is only for record, I can not fit them anywhere at the present.
If you require any other family name from Bajmok, I can look up for you...

Are their any other Nagys in your book besides George? I've been told one of Andrew Nagy's sons (Joseph) was mayor of Bajmok at one time. Joseph was born in 1863 so he wouldn't have been mayor until maybe late 1800's. (just a guess). How about Kantor's. Any mention of them in your book. Or Paroczy.

Do you have more more close records on birth and death dates of Eva Nagy. Eva married Mihaly Ruzsik on 11th Nov 1857.
