Kathleen Mishley-Murray: My Grandfather

I am interested in finding ANY information about my grandfather; Albert (William or Michael) Mishley. I believe he was born in Bely Austria Hungary around 1898. He came to America when he was aproximately 2 years old. I am having a difficult time tracking down what his surname was originally.

Did you locate his manifest? Did he come thru Ellis Island? www.ellisislandrecords.org
Using One Step www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html there were 8 MISLEYs, 17 MISLEJs, 331 people from Bely/Bely Cerkow/Belyorez/Belye Nari, 7 MISLAYs,and 34 MISLAIs. You might want to check out the manifests.
A first name translation website www.fam.aust.com/topolcsany/names as you might know, his first name would not be William in the "old country". The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) have filmed the church records of Slovak Republic so check what they have for Biel. Its films could be included with Cierna nad Tisou, Kralovsky Chlmec, or Male and Velke Trakany.

Take a look of this family below from Ellis Island records, race Magyar, coming to husband/father Mikael Mislai in Stanford, Ct.
Parkany was part of Hungary until 1920, today is in Slovakia and called Sturovo. When you open the following Map of Hungary, you'll see both names at the very top, just across the border: http://lazarus.elte.hu/moterkep/mb.htm [use Exlorer browser]
