JKS: Kavosi/Kovosi
Grandfather Andrew Kavosi/Kovosi came to Canada at age of 15 or 16 by himself in 1905. Don't know his birth surname but he came from Csengerbagos. Anyone out there???? Thank you.

ctoshie: Toshie
My husband's grandfather, Andrew Louis Toshie stowed away on a boat to NY at the age of 13 or 14 (alone). He later (1917 draft registration) listed Csengerbagos as his birthplace, but I don't know the original spelling of his last name. Is there anyway to find this out with this limited amount of information? I checked the ellisislandrecords.org with no luck. Thanks!

Why Andras TASI age 17 can not be your ancestor?

ANDREW TOSHIE 31 Jul 1889 May 1974 45040 (Mason, Warren, OH) (none specified) 302-16-6372 Ohio
He shows up in http://ssdi.rootsweb.com So his SS-5Form should have his place of birth and parents names.

ctoshie: Re: Toshie/Tasi
This is possible, but I'm told by all of the relatives that he came to the US at the age of 12. Supposedly, at his age, he had difficulty getting a job, but found one as a gardener.

"told by all of the relatives" will not do, only a precise document. A child under age 15 had to have been accompanied by an adult. Did the relatives mentioned a family member that he might have come with? Was your ancestor naturalized citizen? If yes, his naturalization petition will have his birth date, place of birth, name of ship and date of arrival.

wakaws: kavasi
Hello, I have been searching for my long lost relatives in Hungary, my grandfather was Andrew Kavasi,he came to Canada in 1912 when he was 16 yrs old. I was told that he left a big family behind, His fathers name was George Kavasi and mother was Julia Rance who I was told lived to be 96 yrs old, I believe he was from Csengerbajos, now Boghis Romania,In Canada he married Virag Arendas, father was John Arendas mother was Mary TOTH, I believe she was from this same region. I can see that their are still many Kavasi and Arendas in Satu-mare area. I think I am correct about this spelling of Kavasi but not 100% sure. If anyone would have any information on this subject I would love to hear from you. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, FROM CANADA
