ccaswick: Kolbas/Brezina; Surname: MITRO
I'm researching the history of Kolbasa/Brezina -- there is very little on the internet about this village. I believe my grandmother, Maria Mitro, and her ancestors came from this village. If anyone has any history I'd be curious to know more, especially if there are any churches where I can get birth/marriage, etc. records. Any replies are appreciated. Thanks.

hmikita: Re: Kolbas/Brezina; Surname: MITRO
My great grandmother's name was Maria Metro, who married Michael Metro and I believe came to US in 1890's from Hungary. She had three daughters: Kathryn(Mikita), Susan (Coleman?) and Sophia(Barnett) all born in early 1900's in either PA or Gary, IN. Is there a connection?

ccaswick: Re: MITRO
Wow, got a letter from a 2nd cousin in Brezina -- which used to be called Kolbaszo -- however, I cannot find that on the 1910 Zemplen map -- but I'll keep trying. I wrote a letter to the mayors of nearby towns and one or more of them forwarded the letter to an english speaking college student in Brezina.

Locate Toketerebes and go South-West and there it is Kolbaso by a river Ronyva.

csiki: Re: MITRO
Hi Caye !
I attached a historical map of "Hegyalja" - the field of Tokaj vine, with its own history - on which is Kolbása appears as Kolbasz (in the part M1, south from Kozma and north from Villy)and a photo about the steeple of its church. You can see this is a greek-catholic village. Last summer I visited this village in Slovakia near to the Hungarian border (I am a hungarian) because some ancestors of my father-in-law came from that village. I ask you is any Matyas (called hungarian Mátyás)in your grandmother's family. There are some thombs of Mátyás's in the cemetery.
Best regards:
Attila Csiki
