Helen Kastenbaum: Chumalovo{Csmolif}
I am doing a Webpage for Jewishgen on Chumalovo. My mother was born there. Her family lived there and were destroyed in the Holocaust. She had immigrated to Cleveland,Ohio at age 18, alone. The family name was Slomovic. Other surnames were Rosenthal, Motjovits, Moskovits, Jackobovits
Jackobovits, Hershkovits and many more. If you are interested in this Shtetl, contact me, and we can figure out how we are related. Chumalovo was a tiny shtetl so
so its interesting to find other people whose families lived there. By the way, George Rosenthal is my second cousin once removed.

Marshall: Re: Chumalovo{Csmolif}
My mother lived in Chumalovo and Khust. My grandmother's maiden name was Jacobovitz. They came to the US in 1924 and also settled in Cleveland. I am interested in learning more.

Helen Kastenbaum: Chumalovo
To Marshall: My mother had a sister who was born in Chumalovo Rachel Slomovic. Married a Jakobovits. Not sure of his first name could be Lajos? They lived in Drahovo
Had a daughter named Helen Jacobovits who is or was a
survivor. Lived in Chicago area Married to a Ben Anton
Ive lost track of her. It seem that people who immigrated from that area of Maramaros went to Cleveland. I was born in Cleveland but my family moved to Detroit. Are you related to the Marshalls from Cleveland? They are cousins.

Marshall: Re: Chumalovo
Helen,
My email is margolismarshall -a-t- hotmail.com -d-o-t-
My grandfather was William Benis. He had come to the US and became a citizen;but he went back to Chumalovo and started a family. My mother and five brothers and sisters were born in Chumalove; another uncle was born in Hust. The family came to the US in 1924. They lived on the East side of Cleveland; several of my aunts and uncles went to Glenville High.
As a teenager, I visited my family in Cleveland Hts; I remember once going to a Maramorisher synagogue close to my grandmother's home.
I was born in Cleveland;my family moved to Southern California in 1953.
My mother has a cousin, Leon Metz, a survivor;the rest of his family perished. He is in the Los Angeles area.
Our cantor, Marcia Tilchin, is from Detroit. Perhaps you know her family.
