Drahovo - Jakubovits forum: Carolle: relative search
tmcfota: Popp from Drahova
I want to locate relatives of Mike Popp, 1884-1976. Mike was born in Drahova, Czech. His wife Szuchara Marika Miklus could be from same area or Austria Hungary. Her father was named Nick Miklus or Nick Zuchara. There is a relative, Anna Ivanivona Popp who lived in Drahovo in 1976. Attached is a family photo. Please write if you can help. Thanks, Theresa

Carolle: Re: Kovesliget
My Grandparents Jakub Jakubovits and Lillian Abramovits came from this town (Drahova). They came to the US in 1927 with my mother Giza(Gitel) and her two sisters Rose and Freida. They are all gone now. The other day I received an Email from a cousin who was born there. Her family was in the Holocaust and she has been searching for relatives ever since.

What year were you born. My grandmother was born in 1911 and immigrated in 1920 to America. Can you tell me anything about Drahova during those years? I'd be most grateful.

Hi Shayna,

Did you read the article on Drahova from the Marmaros Yizkor Book that I translated and put online?

http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/maramures/mar270.html

My grandmother was born in Kovesliget (Drahova) in ~1890. She came to Cleveland in 1906, and married my grandfather in Cleveland in 1909. He was originally from a nearby village Szeleslonka (also known as Leh, or Shiruki-Lug).

You can contact me directly from the link on the page:

http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/maramures/Maramures.html#TOC

Hoping to hear from you directly,

Moshe Davis

carolle: Re: Kovesliget
Was Jacobs the name of your family in Czechoslovakia? My mother's name was Gitel(Gladys) Jakubovits. She also was born in 1911. Her name changed to Jacobs when she came to Michigan in 1927. My grandparents, Jake and Leah lived in Cleveland for a while. Jake's siblings were Ruth, Issie, and Gladys. I have no record of their children. Jake's father was Herman Jakobovitch born in 1853. He married Fanny Sajovits. Does any of this information fit yours?

Paul: Re: Kovesliget
Shayna,
There seems no doubt to me that we are related. Your Grandmother Bessie Jacobs from Drahova was my mother's first cousin. My mother was Jean (Jennie) Jacobs, daughter of Ben Jacobs of Cleveland. My Aunt Lillian Jacobs is still alive and lives in Cleveland. She knew your Grandmother Bessie well. There is no doubt. I probably knew your Grandmother when I was growing up in Cleveland, but do not remember her. I do remember your great Aunt Ann as she was very close with my mother and came to visit in Californa. Your great Uncle Ben was at my wedding in 1965. I have a picture. I knew Frieda and Herbie too. Is Herbie still alive? I recently saw David Goldfein in Phoenix.
If this reaches you, we have much to discuss regards the family tree. I will try to reach you by other means.

Paul: Re: Kovesliget
Chaja - I have no knowledge of the Sajovitch family of Kovesliget. All my immediate family had left Kovesliget (Drahova) by 1921. A quick search of the Ellis Island database only shows a few Sajovics. Two of them from Kovesliget.
Rachel Sajovics, born 1881 came from Kovesliget to Hudson New York in 1911. Her husband was Chaim Sajovics.
Itzik Sajovics, born 1906 came with his mother Rachel to Hudson New York. His father was Chaim Sajovics. Do you know any other family names from Kovesliget?

Dear Moshe,
I am Shana's mother and have been in touch with Paul Berkowitz
who I had not seen since he was five years old. We have since been working together on our family history. His grandfather and my grandfather were brothers. My great grandfather was Avram (or Abraham) Jankovic (changed to Jacobs). They lived in Cleveland,Ohio. They came from Drahova in Kovesliget Maramaros, Hungary.
I am planning to go
to what is now the Ukraine to try to find my great grandfather's grave. My grandmother's father's name was Hyman Pinkus. When she came to this country in 1920 she left her parents and a married brother with his wife and children. I don't know what happened to them. They lived in Kolachava (Negrovitz Maramaros, Czech
From my cousin, Paul, I gather that your family started the Davis Bakery in Cleveland. I remember it well!!!
I have not seen the research you have done on this area. Could you please email it to me??? My email is: laish32 -a-t- gmail -d-o-t- com I live in New York City and have five grown children. My eldest daughter lives in Tzfat, Israel.
Hoping to hear from you soon. Thank you!!!!

SBD: Re: Kovesliget
My grandparents are form this village and share the name Berkowitz with you. I would be interested in trying to determine if we are part of the same family. THeir names were Samuel and Ella in NYC, where they immigrated before WW1, though quite likely their names in Drahova were Yiddish

Kedves Andor!

Ismerem ezt az oldalt, egyikük sem szerepel benne. Tudomásom szerint, az alakulatuk a háború végén - egészen pontosan a háború befejezése után néhány nappal... - szovjet hadifogságba esett.

Üdvözlettel
