voyagerdosmil: Translation Help
In the 1869 Hungarian census, I found a family member in the town of Dubroka, Zemplen, Hungary. The last column showed the following entry and I have trouble reading the handwriting and figuring out what it means:

kriszolgola katona or kiszolgala katona

If anyone could translate, I would greatly appreciate it. I know katona means soldier and there was a family story that he had been in the military.

A map of old Zemplen megye:
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910/zemplen.jpg You need to locate an US document which should have a place of birth. Was your ancestor naturalized citizen? Did he have social security numbers? http://ssdi.rootsweb.com
Did they marry in US? Do you know which port they came thru? www.ellisislandrecords.org
Steve would have come thru as Istvan. Do you know language of your ancestors?
