RoseMary: Martinides Family, Gelnica
My Great Grandmother,Johanna Martinides b July, 1864, possibly Golniczbanya, Hungary. Her father was John Martinides, Mother Mary Martinides nee Varga of Golniczbanya. Have found church records that show baptism of Stephan Martinides,Oct 1872 in Golniczbanya. Also records on Vincent Varga (her father) and Ana Maria/Maria Frits (Mother)
The Oldest son John immigrated abt 1881, John and Mary with family, Joseph,Rose, Stephen, Mary, Martin immigrated in 1888 to New York. All set up residence in Yonkers NY.
Johanna had already immg in 1882 and may have already been married to Paul Waligura. Rose married Stephen Porach, Mary married Frank Erm. Another daughter, Josephine married Paul Tuza in Hungary and immigrated with with daughter Ella in 1891. 1900 census shows Josephine a widow same for Mary Martinides. I have been unable to find other birthdates in this family in Hungary, also Marriage for Josephine. Also not sure they lived in Golniczbanya the whole time in Hungary. John the son was certainly involved in mining of some sort as was Paul Waligura. Any info would be appreciated.

The town of Golnczbanya is now Gelnica, Slovak Republic.

If your ancestors married in the old country, keep in mind the distance, or transportation they had in those old days, their two feet. The villages would be about 10 miles in diameter from each other.
The LDS-Mormons have filmed the church records of Slovak Republic so you can order the films and gather ancestral information.

The surname VARGA, FRIC' lists in Gelnica's phone book.

My Father was Robert Sakowicz, the son of Ella Tuza and Frank Sakowicz. He also had a sister Ruth who was married to Anthony DiLilo. Ruth passed away about 2 years ago. She had two daughters, Ruthie and Jeanne, as well as a son Michael. In my family there are just the two of us, myself and my sister Jean. My father is gone since 1975. Ella died in 1971, Frank in 1973.
I would like to know anything you have about the family. I wasn't raised within the family structure, so finding out my backround is very important to me. I would like to determine the places they came from in the old country, in hopes of someday going there to see where it was they came from.
If you want, it might be easier to contact me off-list. I appreciate your assistance.
