Marshall: Genealogy
I am researching my family history. Both my Grandparents
are from the city of Gesztely which in 1910 was in the administrative district of Szerencs in the county of Zemplen. My Grandmother Mrs. Janos Mari or Mori was born Maria Szentgyorgi and she came to the USA in 1913. She was the owner of a Noble Estate. I have a land record dated September 28, 1912 from the Registry of Land of the City of Gesztely that was written by the Registrar of the Land Register for the Honored Royal Office of the Royal District Court in Szerencs. It describes a house and courtyard and deals with a usufruct for her mother, the widow Mrs. Jozsef Lapis, born Terezia Matyus. From a 1967 letter to my Grandmother, Maria, I believe she had a sister named Mrs. Jozsef Mihalszky who had two children, Erzsike and Annus. If anyone can help with additional information, please respond.
Thank you.

Marshall: Re: Genealogy
Zoltan,

Thank you very much for the wonderful information.
It is a little confusing and I am wondering just where my Grandmother Maria Szentgorgyi (Maria Janosne) fits in since her Maiden name is different. In 1967 she received a letter from Mrs. Jozsep Mihalszki addressed to my Grandmother as "My Dear Sister". From your chart "Jozsef Lapis Utodok" it looks like Jozsef Lapis & Terez Matyus had only 2 children, Magdonia and Istvan, but my Grandmother's sister was Magdonia. I will study this with great excitement. May I continue to communicate with you? I have some pictures that I will send.

Marshall: Re: Genealogy
My Friend Zoli,

I thought it had to be something like that. I found your other chart that you posted in the Forum, the one with pictures. With this and your other charts I am trying to put it all together in one big chart. I will let you know how I do. How did you like the pictures? I have more.

JillNagy: Louis Nagy in Gesztely
Hello! I'm researching my great-grandfather Louis Nagy, born in Gesztely around 1892, immigrated to America around 1910. Father may have been Charles Nagy, but that information is a little hazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Marshall!
I never got back to this site so I didn't see your response. If you get this, please email me (I couldn't quite figure out the email on your profile :) if you know of any resources for Gesztely genealogy. Thanks so much in advance!

Location, location, location.
When did MIHALSZKY ancestor come to America? Did you look in www.ellisislandrecords.org
Mihalszky, Achim Nyiregyhaza 17 1888 1905
Mihalszky, Janos Sepes Mepye, Hungaria 17 1896 1913

What language was spoken by the ancestor?
In order to help, I need to know a little bit more about the MIHALSZKY ancestor. I am sure you know that you/your partner need to backtract.
