LisaMetz: Metz-Meier of Aranyag
Looking for information on Johannes Metz and Catherine Meier family of Herneacova-Aranyag. Farming family had five sons. Matyas born 1877, Tomasz Metz born Feb. 25, 1894, Paul and possibly Josef (not confirmed name). Johannes Jr. was born December 8, 1882 and married Anna Bittner born Aug. 28, 1887. Anna's mother was Anna Juran born 1867 and her father Mihaly Bittner. Matyas traveled to US with a Franzen.

Any information would be helpful - I have been looking for two years now and nothing so far - if you know anything about this family - please e-mail me directly.

Family immigrated to Buffalo, New York, Michigan and Argentina.

Not related and basically do not know anything about this family, just want to help with what I know.
If you want someone to e-mail off the board you need to put down your e-mail by using :at and dot: in the address.

The town of Aranyag falls into Temes megye and is in Romania which you know that it is now called Herneacova.
The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910
Since Matyas METZ said on the manifest that he is German maybe this website might be of some help:
www.genealogienetz.de/reg/ESE/dsinfo.htm
Unfortunately it seems that the LDS were not allowed to film the church records. You might have to/ want to hire a researcher in Romania to do the research.
One is mentioned in this website :
www.centroconsult.sk
www.imrehun.com
Romania's phone site is listing a METZ in city of Bucuresti, Timisoara. Surname BITNER and BITTNER lists in Bucuresti's phone book.
