mitroka: Re: Horlyo
Paul, I am related to the Ozemik and Lohins. MAry Lohin was married to Nick Ozimek in St Catherines Canada, they to were from Horlyo. My Grandfather John Mitrovka was from Horlyo. Some how the Ozimeks and Mitrovka's are related, I believe the Mitrovkas and Lohins are related but have not been able to figure out the connection. Any Help is appreciated. MArk

mitroka: Re: Horlyo
Tara thanks for the inquiry. My grandfather John Mitrovka was born in Horlyo in 1886. His parents were John and Julia Mitrovka. My grandfather came to the US in 1904 and settled in Auburn NY. His best friend and possible cousin John Marko also immigrated with him and they married 2 sisters Anna and Mary Rudik who they met while living in a boarding house in Conemeaugh PA. John Marko settled in Binghamton NY.
My grandfather had a half brother Afton born in Ungvar in 1882 his mother was Barbara who is believed to have died from influenza. Afton came to the US in 1900 and setttled in Johnston PA.
My greatgrandfather remained behind and may have had a third wife which is how Ii may be related to the Lohin amd Ozimeks. If you our anyone else can help me with any info I would be estatic!! It is belived that John Mitrovka was a teacher and lived to be 93. This pretty much sums it up, There may be a Mitrovka connection going back to Ungvar I have a picture of my grandfather circa 1920 my email is mr30 -a-t- cornell.edu -d-o-t- Thanks MArk

hammernhank: Grandfather
My grandfather was born in Horlyo in the 1850's. His name was Adolph Grunberger. I would like to know if anyone would have any information about him as I am having trouble verifying his history. All the records are now in the Ukraine and in this region or oblast the civil servant will not give out any information.

Thanks, Hank

Erni: Re: Horlyo
Our Jewish family, the Grunbergers, lived in Chudlovo in the 19th and early 20th century. My great grandparents did not immigrate to the US and they may have had some children who also remained there.

My grandfather Herman was born there in 1872 and came to the US at about age 12. 2 younger brothers followsd in the late 1800s. A sister came just before WWI and the youngest brother came from Chudlovo in about 1921.

All took the Greenberger name in the US and lived in western PA.

You report that you still have family in Chudlovo. I would like to know if there is still a Jewish cemetery there - or if anyone there remembers the Grunberger name. Thank you.

Mashka : Re: Horlyo
Hi. I was born in Hudlyovo (Horlyo-hu., Chudlovo-sk., Hudlevo-ru.). Surnames Mytrovka, Lohin, Ozimok and Marko are very common in Hudlyovo. Perhaps older people would remember something. Usually people know about relatives that moved to US. I plan to go back to Ukraine next summer and do more research about old records etc. On another website I found out that pre WWII records are in Beregovo archive. With Soviet Union came hard times for Byzantine church and priests, I'm pretty sure that there are no old records(metrykas) in Hudlyovo church. Feel free to ask questions.
