kag52551: Skycak relatives
I am almost positive that my Skycak realtives came from Klin and were in the linen trade before 1900. My great-grandmother married my great-grandfather, Wendellin Murin who came from the town next door, Namestovo. I have read that his family was also a leader in the linen trade in their town and that there is a large memorial to two Murin brothers in Namestovo.

Dr.Barb: Re: Skycak relatives
Would you please contact me. My family line Klinovsky or the Hungarian spelling, Klinovszky, can be traced back to the 1700's in a town called Klin located in Slovakia. I have a relative, Roselia KLINOVSKY who married a man with a similiar last name. They moved from Klin to Chicago. When I was looking at birth records some of your relatives might have been god parents to my family members. Hope to hear from you.... Barb

kag52551: Re: Skycak relatives
I have done some research at the LDS on Klin and my relatives and I have found quite a few Klinovskys. Some of my relatives could have been godparents. If you look far enough back they all seem to relate somehow. My relative from Klin was my great-grandmother Maria Skycak. I still don't know her parents names but I heard from a cousin that her father's name was Jan. My relatives also moved to Chicago. Karen

Zlatica : Re: Skycak relatives
Karen

Did find a phone listing in Klin for SKYCAK and SKYCAKOVA (ova a female) in Nitra. Most likely a distant relative to you.
www.zoznamst.sk
Since Klin is close to Poland, I took a look there for a surname. No SKYCAK but did find SKICAK, SKICIAK, and SKICZAK.
Is this someone in your family tree?
Rozsa SZKICZAK arr in 1906 from Klein (Klin on the manifest) going to husband SZKICZA? Franz(k), Chicago, Ill.
www.ellisislandrecords.org
Janos SKICZAK from Szarnya left mother Josefine Skiczak in Szarnya going to sister Marya Skiczak, Chicago, Ill
Szarnya, Arva megye, Hungary now Poland
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910 click on Arva megye in the green outline, top right corner.
Most of the SZKICSAKs that came thru EI were from Klin and Vinga.
Vinga, Temes megye, Hungary now Romania.

kag52551: Re: Skycak relatives
Dear Barb,
I never heard of a Rosalia Klinovsky, but have you looked at the LDS birth records for Klin? You might find her listed. My Skycak relatives which I have found were an Uncle John Skycak (37)who was a maitre d' in Chicago at some restaurant and his mother Theresa (68). They lived on 18th St in 1930. I also found another Theresa Skycak who is 30 years younger with two children, Anthony (21) and Johana (19) who lived on String St in 1930. I'm thinking this could be a daughter of the elder Theresa. Both are listed as widows. My g-grandma was named Maria Theresa Skycak and was born in 1884 so was 46 in 1930. I think John was her brother. My Dad remembered meeting him when he was a boy and that he was a maitre d'of a fancy restaurant. Don't know if this is helpful......Karen

kag52551: Re: Skycak relatives
Yes, I have done most of the things you have suggested, Zlatica. From what I discovered when I first saw the LDS records from Klin and Namestovo, there are many spelling for Skycak, many more than I would have guessed. I know my grandmother came from Klin, but you're right, its very close to Poland, and I think the Polish border was once different than today and included some of the Goral villages now in Slovakia. I really don't know a whole lot about any other relatives except an Uncle John Skycak and a sister, Julia Skycak who married a John Kray. Other than that the names you mentioned don't ring a bell. I think most of her relatives never came to the US. Thanks for the tips. Karen
