| steves: Schoenwiesner Name Origin | My last name is Schoenwiesner, and I would appreciate if anyone could confirm if this name might come from the town of Schonwies (which is the German equivalent of Senviz in Hungarian and Krasna Luka in Slovakian) in Saros Megye. The RadixIndex databases list many people with this surname or with variant spellings such as Schonvizner, Schonwieszner, etc.; a large percentage of them are listed as coming from towns in Saros Megye or the adjoining county of Szepes Megye.
My grandfather Adolph was born in Budapest in 1883, my great-grandfather Jakob was born in Criciova (Kricsova) Romania in 1852, and my great-great-grandfather lived in Criciova. They were all Jewish. I am looking to see if they may have originally come from the Saros/Szepes area. |
