yoscak: Gurcsak,
I am trying to locate birth records of G-father, or info of any kind. Josephus/Stephanus Gurcsak, Born in Alsolapos Hungary approx 1885. My G-father migrated to US, date unknown and no record found at Ellis Is.My father migrated in 1921 his surname listed on the ships list as Stephan Joscak--Ellis Island as Stephan Jascak. residence Podolin, born Podolin. GURCSAK comes from my fathers baptism certicate which lists parentum as Josephus Gurcsak//Victoria Bilyak. My g-father passed away in 1935, non citizen US. He was buried as Stephan Yoscak. I have exhausted all spelling variation but 1, of course his. I have again ordered micro film from church of later day saints, when I first perused them I was looking for Yoscak///Joscak// Jascak. After getting info on G-Father Catholic church records confirmed My Fathers birth as Stephanus Gurcsak legitimate,1908. Included is baptism certificate of My father, original and copy from Podolin church

KAMelis: Re: Gurcsak,
I may be able to help your research from the Nizne Lapsze area (Also Lapse). This area is currently located in Poland. I share ancestry in this border village, visited several times and am well versed in the church records there.

I show a Stephanus Gurscak born to a Rosalia Gurscak (servilis), no father listed, House # 117 on August 16 1884.

If you would like to contact me, please do so at tmelis -a-t- zoominternet.net -d-o-t- I would like to know if you have more pages as the type you attached to your inquiry.

Sincerely, KAMelis

yoscak: Re: Gurcsak,
Sir
That is great and sounds correct, I figured 1885. If copy of same can be obtained, please tell me how. My father claimed he was illegit, however he might have mistaken conversations by his parents, and they might have been talking about Granfather. If any further info needed please let me know. The spelling I have for town is Alsolapos Thank you so much

TominVB: Lapsze Nizne
Good Day to both of you

Grandma and Grandpa Sempa left Nizne Lapso - Alsolaps in 1896 for Pittston PA.

His name Adalbert Czempa (known as George Sempa) - Hers Maria Soltis (SP?) Czempa, also daughter Julia. My mother was Margret Sempa, she was the youngest, I am the youngest.

Just reviewed the 1869 census and did not find either, especially since she was born in 1870. Assume that he was born in same time frame. I do not believe that this was her home village since there are no Soltis etc male head of households in the 1869 count. Couple of Czempa families though.

Would love to establish contact with you folks and see if we can assist each other. Wife and I have tentitive plans to visit the area Summer of 2007 - can't get there sooner.

Thanks in advance

Tom and Judy

There were some SOLTISZ /SOLTESZs that were from Alsolapos and SOLTES / SOLTESZs/ SOLTIS/SOLTYS/SOKTESZ/SOLTISZ/POLTESZ from Lapos that came thru EI. Small amount of CZEMPAs, CEMPAs and SEMPAs with some of them having that they are from Kamionka.
www.ellisislandrecords.org
In 1990 census of names there were 73 CZEMPAs, 1 SOLTIS, 2 SOLTYSs, and 7 SZOLTISs. www.herby.com.pl/herby in Polish and only distribution.

You might want to check out this site :

Take a look in Felsolapos's census since it seems that some of the SOLTIS/SOLTESZs were from there.

My grandmother was Maria Soltis from (we believe) Alsolaps or Lapse Nizne. She married Adalbert Cempa and she arrived USA April 1896 with daughter Julia. Perhaps we are related. You can reach me at 888 224 4164.

Hi,
I haven't been to this site for a while but thought you should be aware of a new Dual Geographic DNA Project involving your surnames and ancestral villages. We've corresponded before. Please check out http://www.familytreedna.com/public/ZamagurieRegionDNAProject/ for more details.

Karen A Melis: Re: Lapsze Nizne
Hi,
Looking at the old Radix posts, I see you are researching Adalbertus Czemba and Maria Soltys Csemba from Also Lapsze.

I have their marriage information and may be able to help you with your ancestry based on my preliminary search of the 19,800 database I have of the Polish / Slovak Spisz border villages.

Please email me at tmelis -a-t- zoominternet -d-o-t- net

Take care, Karen Melis

My grandparents were Paul Griglak and Maria Geletka. They immigrated to US about 1898-1900. Paul's parents were Lorenz Griglak and Elizabeth Bucz. Maria's were John Gelyatka and Elizabeth Blasozek. Anyone recognize these people or may be descendents. Would love anyn information...........
