rtvorik: Lipnica Weilka History

My ancestors came to United States from Lipnica when it was known as Alos Lipnicza Hungary. Great grandfather had a "tanery there" according to relative who was granddaughter of Steven (Istvon) Tvorik who came to America in 1907. I desire to learn more about the area and the business listed in 1891 Directory of Business and Trades in Hungary. Our surname decends from Joannes SKOCSIK. Desire to know of any Skocsik people I can communicate with. Anyone from the area or who knows the area would be welcome contact. Please write.

The 3 Skocsiks were from Szepeszency (sp? / Szepessumeg which is Smizany, Slovak Republic (Spis region).

eva: ancestors wielka lipnica

We've visited Wielka Lipnica where the ancestors of my husband had lived 100 years ago.Came back yesterday. We've found there a family named Kupczyk, but they must belong to another Kupczyk line. Our great-grandfather was Adam Kupcsik. Theirs was Ignac or Karol. Very impressing moment: we found a piece of stone with the name of the great-grandpa in the cemetery. Lipnica is a beautiful place with very nice people. I'm seeking families with name: Kupcsik, Kupczyk. Can you help me? Other seeking: fam. Martiniak in Chicago (their grandmother was Kupcsik/Kupczyk as well).Help me, please.

the village of Wielka Lipnica (Polish), Velka Lipnica (Slovak) and Felso Lipnicza in Hungarian was for a short time in former Czechoslovakia's border. KUPCSIK would be KUPC'IK in Slovak and it does show up in SK over the border from Lipnica Wielka in Trstena.

Take a look in Ellis Island website: www.ellisislandrecords.org there were some KUPCSIKs from Also and Felso Lipnicza. I typed out the correct spelling. You can see the misspelling on the manifest Some MARTINIAK also from Lipnicza show up in EI site.
