| Vivian Kahn: NEUMANN/Miskolc | My father Elemer NEUMANN lived in Miskolc for several years during WWI (about 1914-16) when he was a child. It is possible that my grandparents moved to the Miskolc area because they had family members living there. I have attached a picture of my father's oldest sister Blanka and her fellow workers at Kovacs Women's Tailors in Miskolc. Blanka is the woman on the far left.
I'm going to be visiting Miskolc in August and will try to find out where the NEUMAN family lived. I also will research the following names associated with this family including KOHN, ROSENBERG, and MOSKOVITS to identify other relatives from Miskolc.
My paternal grandparents were Viktor NEUMANN and Hermina MOSKOVITS, both of whom were born in Szobrancz, about 15 km west of Ungvar. Viktor managed a tobacco farm. Viktor's parents were Miksa NEUMANN and Ottilie (Aidel) POLACSEK. Hermina's parents were Sara (Sali) KOHN and Markus MOSKOVITS. My great-aunt Josefin NEUMANN married Izek (Ignac) ROSENBERG. Their children, all born in Szobrancz, included Ferencz (b. 1890), Margit (b. 1891), and Anna (Chana) b. 1892.
I'd would appreciate suggestions about resources to investigate during my visit. I'm going to be looking for directories, tax records, and other resources that might indicate where my grandparents lived in Miskolc. Jewish community records might be another possibility but, to my knowledge, no one in the immediate family was born or died in Miskolc.
