Mark: Mihalovits
My Grandmother Anna Kiss, nee Mihalovits, and a whole bunch of other Mihalovits came to this country in the period between 1904 and 1913. We keep in touch and are scattered throughout the country, through most of the Mihalovits settled in the mid-West. I'm curious is there is anyone with an ancestor with the surname Kiss from this area. My grandfather's sister, Maria Kiss, came over in 1908 from Oregfalu, the next town over. I would love to meet some of her American descendents - you are my cousins.

Zlatica : Re: Mihalovits
Mark

Not a Mihalovits or Kiss in my family tree. Do post on other boards like Serbian, Romanian and Family name boards.
Serbian because Sandor MIHALOVITS has on his Ellis Island manifest that he is Servian and from Otelek. Romanian board because the village of Otelek falls into Torontal megye and now in Romanian.

Mark: Re: Mihalovits
Zlatica, thanks for your response. Pustinis is I believe the German name for OREGFALU, a small town southwest of Temesvar (now Timisoara) and currently, along with Otelek, considered part of Uivar. In the Ellis Island
Records the town is incorrectly listed as "Oregfaln".

Here is a copy of the passenger record for Maria Kiss:

Kiss, Maria 24y F Single

Hungary, Magyar Oregfaln, Hungary

Pennsylvania, departed from Hamburg

Arrived NY July 23, 1908

On the passenger manifest page 0462, Maria is listed on line 10, my grandmother Anna on line 11, my father Joszef on line 12, my Uncle Johnnie on line 13, and my grandmother's brother Illes Mihalovits on line 14. All
the Mihalovits claimed Otelek as their town of origin.

Thanks for your interest,
Mark Kiss

Zlatica : Re: Mihalovits
Your welcome.

I know that the ending should be FALU and not FALN.
I only help out with some sites which you might have or might not.
Yes, that is what the website "genealogienetz" says that Oregfalu is Pustinis (Pustinisch in German).
Good luck.
