Hello. I am looking for a clue as to the family of
Samual and Mary Soptelean who came to the US in the
early 1900's with their little children Walter and

You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research. No one with the surname Sopte or Soptelean passed thru Ellis Island. That is the first place that I look.

Any of the 7 SOPTELEANs listed in the Social Security Death Index your direct ancestor that came from the "old country"? The SS-5Form would have a name of a town.

The surname TOTH is just too common and can be found in several other countries and not just Hungary.
The closes or the only TELEAN was Romanian that passed thru Ellis Island. Do you know the port that your ancestor passed thru?
Romania's phone site is listing a SOPTELEA surname.

A Samuel SOPTELEAN does show up in Social Security Death Index. You can request his SS-5Form and hopefully there should be a name of a town.
Try the White Pages. There is a listing for Walter living in Jewett, OH and Hartford City, IN.

My name is Caleb Soptelean. I believe Samual and Mary were my great grandparents. Walter is my grandfather. I am the son of his son, Walter, Jr.
Any information you can relate to me about the descendants of Samual and Mary is appreciated.
My father says his descendants came from Cluj, Transylvania, Romania.

hello beverly. Samual and Mary are my grandparents.They had other children . My mother Irene was the youngest girl.Two brothers after her. Ted and John.I remember them and dorthy. also Anna an older sister that i heard of alot. my one sister is named from both being Dorothyann.Sorry i forgot the other younger brother Samual.I was 8yrs old when grandma died,but my other sister who is now our matriarch could give you alot more info. hope this helps. email address rsunderman -a-t- aol -d-o-t- com
