Steve Brickse: Iglo/Iglu, Szepes (Saros) megye, Hungary
Am researching the name BRICHZE, Tivada, from old Iglo, Szepes (Saros) Megye, Hungary, currently known as Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia.

He was the owner of a Hotel named KOZPONT, and since the hotel has changed names.

Am trying to connect this name to that of mine - BRICKSE, and the living-descendants who still carry this name (BRICHZE).

I have a photo-postcard of the Hotel/Kavehaz, with his picture, inset on it. It is attached, here.

Any information regarding the Hotel/Kavehaz, or Tivada BRICHZE would be most welcomed.

Kind regards,

Steve Brickse

Hello! I am sorry that I do not have any information on the name you are researching. I am interested in the photograph you posted. What year is it? My immigrant ancestor was born in 1871 in Iglo, and came over to America in 1902. Do you have other photos of Iglo in that time period? I am making a photo album of our ancestry and would like to include some period photos if I can find any.I look forward to your response.Thank you!

My deepest apology !

The LDS-Mormons have filmed the church records so you might want to take a look for some family information. (again, my apology if you already done so)

Steve Brickse: Photo of Hotel Kozpont/Kavehaz - Iglo/Iglu, Szepes (Saros) megye, Hungary
Julie,

Since this photo has been posted, you are free to use it for your "personal reference purposes". Please do not reference it for any "public" use.

The date is surmised to be at the turn-of-the-century, from the clothing, and persons therein at the time. An exact date/year is unknown.

The person in the photo is the father-in-law of Erno Tomscanyi, as his daughter, Olga, married.

May we correspond off-forum ?

I would be interested in knowing ANYTHING about the old town, and the names therein...your immigrant ancestor, included.

THIS person came to the U.S. in 1913, with two of his daughters(and a granddaughter), and leaving his son, and another daughter, behind.

Anticipating further correspondence.

Kind regards,
Steve Brickse

Betty Wesley: Szkurka - Skurka
I am searching for information about the Jan (Janos) Szkurka or Skurka family who lived in Slovinky Slovakia during the second half of the 19th century. The name could also be spelled Skorka or Skorkova.

We will be visiting this area in September 2004 and would be most grateful for any information or hints anyone can give.

Thank you.

Betty, I am not familiar with this town, or the name. Could the town be close to Spisska Nova Ves ?

buggaboo: Schonvizner
Hello! I have Mihaly SCHNOVIZNER. He came over to Cleveland, Ohio in November, 1902 (Bremen-->Baltimore-->Cleveland)from Korpona, but was born 6 July 1872 in Iglo. On his naturalization intent, he states both Iglo and Tamasfalu as his place of birth. I have been pointed to a small village outside of Iglo as the most probable place by Lajos Reich ( a poster to this site)who has been very helpful to me. I am looking for help in deciding which FHL film to order for parish records of this area. I have the FHL index to these records, but am confused by the words, "Krsteni", "Sobaseni", and "Zomreli", as well as, "Index k matrike pokrstenych a zomrelych." Any help in deciding which film to order would be appreciated.
Thank you!

The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at :
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910
Click on Szepes to locate Iglo / Spisska Nova Ves, SK and Tamasfalu might be Szepestamasfalu and a bit West of Iglo.
The town of Korpona / Krupina falls into Hont megye.

Krsteni : baptized
Sobaseni : married
Zomreli : deceased (the words are in Slovak language)
