Roger Regene: REGENYI/REGENYE from Szatmarudvari
I am researching SANDOR REGENYI/REGENYE/RAGANYI (b.1885 Szatmar,Udvari, HU). Udvari is now Odoreu Comuna, RO.

Sandor came to the US in 1909 with his wife, SAUDORNE'(?) and returned to Udvari in 1913. His wife did not return to the states. What became of her? The two families? If you are familiar with the surname or the area, Please contact me. If you are in Odoreau or a nearby area and can assist in my research, I would greatly appreciate it. I am offering a prize of, up to, US$100.00 for information on the REGENYI family. The exact amount depends on the quality of the information.

RESTRAILE: Re: Krimpelbein - Udvari
My name is Ray Straile, I am the great-grandson of Adam Krimnpelbein born in Udvari, Hungary in 1846 (at least I think it was Udvari, I have seen several spellings including Udwar which I think is an error). He was married to Christina (Kristina) Gäberich from Hideygut, Hungary. My e-mail address is restraile -a-t- talon.net -d-o-t- I would bew pleased to hear from you.

jjaspernc: Re: Udvari Surnames
Janos,
Thanks so much for sending an image of the document but unfortunately I am not able to read Hungarian. I do believe the document is related to a Udvary Rosa, the Udvary surname, rather than the village of Udvari. Am I correct? Any connection to the village of Udvari?

jjaspernc: Re: Udvari Surnames
Roger,
We corresponded by email in 2003 and again in 2005 regarding your family from Udvari. I do not know what I might be able to add to that I have previously provided. If you have a particular question, I will try and answer it for you.

If you have not already done so, you might try posting on the various Rootsweb Message Boards and Mailing lists relative to Hungary and Szatmar. There are several.

Happy Hunting!

RRegene: Re: Udvari Surnames
When I located Sandor's Naturalization papers I discovered that his birth place was Kood/Koad/Cheud, HU. While it is very close to Udvari, I can't figure out why, on ALL of his "official" documentation he listed Szatmarudvari instead. The naturalization paperwork also stated that he left a Daughter in Hungary(!).

I am lead to understand this region was constantly shifting between Hungarian and Romanian rule - could this be the reason? If anyone can enlighten me on this matter I would appreciate it.

Jerry - this explains why you did not find mention of my family in Udvari when you were there. Now I need to find someone who is familiar with Kood.

Peace

I forgot to mention that it is Sandor Regenyi/Regenye, later Alexander Regene, that I am referring to.

kezdi: Udvari placename
Roger,
Udvari became Szatmárudvari around the 1900 name clarification period of Hungary to distinguish it from other Udvaris. The Szatmár pre name was taken from Szatmár County it was in.
In 1920 it was annexed into Romania and today called Odorău, Hungarians of course still calling it Udvari or Szatmárudvari.

Kood/Koad/Cheud is not so easy, neither is a correct placename. The closest similar placename is the adjacent village of Kak (HU)/ Cucu (RO).

An other close by could be Kóród aka Szamoskóród/ Szamos-Kórod/ Kórógy/ Szamos-Kórógy (HU)/ Corod (RO).

These were the villages in Szatmár District of Szatmár County per the 1882 Gazetteer of Hungary:
Székhely (District Town): Homok
Adorján, Amacz, Dobrács-Apáti, Batiz, Száraz-Berek, Berence, Berend, Egri, Galbólc, Görbed, Kis-Hodos, Nagy-Hodos, Józsefháza, Kak, Kis-Kolcs, Nagy-Kolcs, Szamos-Kórod, Krassó, Lázári, Lippó, Magosliget, Aranyos-Medgyes, Méhtelek, Mikola, Ombód, Pálfalva, Patóhaza, Bót-Palád, Kis-Palád, Nagy-Palád, Kis-Peleske, Nagy-Peleske, Petyény, Darócz-Puszta, Sárköz, Sár, Kak-Szent-Márton, Sárköz-Ujlak, Udvari, Batiz-Vasvári, Zajta, Zsadány

Here's two links to two maps of Szatmár County.
The first one is from before 1900, look for Udvari, Kak and Szamos-Kóród east from the big city of SZATMÁR-NÉMETI:
http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910/gonczy/szatmar.htm

The second one is from 1910 and look for Szatmárudvari, Kak and Szamoskóród:

Hope this helps,
Joseph

kezdi: Re: Regenyi in Ko'od
Roger,
Got it, Kood, Koad, or perhaps the more correct phonetic substitution Koed could be the ancient spelling for Kőd, Köd (HU)/ Cheud, [Teud] (RO), in Szilágy/ Sălaj County.
ö, ő=long ö, sounds like the e in her
