Előre is köszönöm minden segítségét.

JewishGen obtained a copy of the handwritten Yiddish Ungvar burial records from the Central Jewish Archives. Volunteers are transcribing the records, which will be added to JewishGen's searchable Jewish On-Line World Burial Records (JOWBR). We need more volunteers who can read Hebrew letters to help complete this work. Please contact me off-list if you can help.

Vivian: Re: Looking for Reisman from Ungvar
I am not familiar with names Rosalie Reisman or Ignatz Fisch, but have information about descendants of Shmuel Zanvil REISMAN b. 1814 in Satoraljaujhely, who moved to Ungvar about 1840.

I know of four children born to Shmuel and wife Leah Malka SEGAL--Fani b. 1836 in Satoraljauhely, Bernat (Ber) b. 1841, Eszter b. 1843, and Hani (Hantsche) b. 1846.

Eszter married David (Avraham Chaim) Rosenberg and had at least 12 children. Their son Ignac married my great-aunt Josefine Neumann. Shmuel Zanvil REisman and Leah Malka also had a daughter Hani (Hantsche) who married Mor (Moshe Yehuda) Rothmann. Hani Reisman Rothmann died in Ungvar in 1931. Attached is a picture of her grave that Tomer Brunner took during a recent trip.

Geri Roth: Re: Looking for Reisman from Ungvar
Thank you so very much for your good information and quick reply.
The Reisman family I am looking for did not come from Ujhely.
I think they came to Ungvar because a Rabbi Reisman brought his family there and was the Rabbi of Ungvar. I think his name was Labish Reisman.
I am also researching Ujhely...the name Roth.
Thank you again.

Geri Roth

ritamart: Re: Rosenberg from Ungvar
I saw your message regarding Eszter Reisman marrying David rosenberg and having 12 children. Do you know the names of the 12 children and who they married? My great-aunt was from Ungvar and her maiden name was Hartman (don't know her first name) and she married a Rosenberg. She would have been born in the 1860's or 1870's, so it's possible she married one of the Rosenberg son's.

I saw your message about Rabbi Reisman from Ungvar. My great great grandfather was Rabbi Emanuel (Menachem Mendel) Taub from Ungvar and his wife was Mollie Klein. Their daughter Jetta (Yetta) Taub was my great grandmother and she married Benjamin Hartman. Jetta was born between 1839 and 1849 and had 7 children. She immigrated to the US in 1895 as a widow. Please let me know if any of these names sound familiar.

Geri Roth : Re: Looking for Reisman from Ungvar
Wonderful Rita.
I think my Reisman family got to Ungvar from Lemberg.
Rabbi Reisman was brout from Lemberg to Ungvar to be the first Rabbi there.
None of this is confirmed...just word of mouth.
Anyway I think his name was Labish.
I cannot find any information on him, but I am sure he is buried there.
If you run across anything on him please tell me where to look.
Thank you,
Geri
P.S. Any one in your family marry a Fisch?

Dear Vivian,
I spoke to you many years ago before the Ungvar records were available.
I would be very interested in finding out about the Reisman family from Ungvar. I only know about Rosalie Reisman my great great great grandmother maried to Ignatz Fisch. I have old letters from Ungvar from him written in Gothic German. I have had one translated.
I am not sure how we can contact each other.
I have a brother who lives in the same city as you.

Sorry, I don't know anyone by the name of Fisch. The only document that I've seen showing that my family was from Ungvar was my great uncle's and his son's naturalization papers. I have never found any of my relatives on Jewgen's Hungarian database.

Geri Roth: Reisman from Ungvar
Dear Vivian,
My great great grandfather was Ignatz Fisch. His wife was Rosalie Reisman.
I do not know if he had more than one wife because he had 17 children.
I have letters from him written in the 1880's from Ungvar.
Do you have a Rosalie Reisman Fisch in the Ungarvar records.
Do you have Ignatz.
I would like to find out when they died so maybe I could get the death certificates.
I have the names of quite a few of the children. Only two or three came to America. My great grandfather did come and so did Ignatz Fisch's brothers Abraham and Moritz although they lived in Ungvar before they left for America.
The Fisch family was orginally from NagyKallo.
Leibuch Reisman was the first Rabbi in Ungvar.

Geri

johnkostick: Jozsef Janos Kosztik
My grandfather was Paul Aloysius Kostick born 22 Feb 1899 in Ungvar, Hungary which is now known as Uzhgorod in the Ukraine.

He was the son of Jozsef Janos Kosztik and his wife Erzsebet Kotyuk who came to New York around 1902 with his wife and children following soon after. The names became Joseph John Kostick and his wife Elisabeth in Brooklyn and Philadelphia area.

They were married about 1890. They referred to themselves as Hungarians.

He was Roman Catholic and she was Greek Catholic.

Their children named Elisabeth, Anna, Pauline, John, Paul and Margareth were all born in Hungary two more sons, Frank and Joseph were born in Philadelphia.

The Kostick's my paternal line has been my brick wall. Records from their place of origin in Uzhgorod are almost impossible to research. I would be grateful for any suggestions or help on this line.

My paternal grandparents were born in Ungvar but married in 1912 in NJ USA.
Anna Radi was born Aug 28, 1896 to Stephan Radi, a bricklayer, and Mary Kiovich Radi. She arrived in America in 1911.
She had an older sister Mary Radi who emigrated before her and another sister Helen who came in 1916.
There were other siblings...Albert, Joseph, Stephan and Margaret.

My Grandfather was Michael (Mihaly?) Katona, born Aug 30, 1884 in Ungvar. His parents were John Katona and Josizfa Horcsina. His brothers George and John (born 1878) also emigrated to New Jersey. Michael arrived in the USA about 1908.

I would love to hear from anyone else who has an interest in these families.

Dear Geri,
This is my first time on this website. It was exciting to read your message from February.
My great-grand mother was Helen Reisman, born in Ungvar. As far as I know, and as you mentioned, the first reisman in Ungvar was the first Rabbi of the community.
Therefor I do believe that somehow we are related.
