Ede: Re: Katona
Hello there. I live in Canada, but was born in Pancsova (Pancevo, in Serbian). I perhaps cannot be of direct help to you but just saw your post and wanted to say a few words. Growing up in Pancsova, I came across many people whose last names were those that you mentioned, and I believe that most of them originate in Hertelendyfalva (Vojlovica, in Serbian), Alsóváros-Pancsova or somewhere around. Also, one of our beloved locals, Ms. Biszak Júlia, was born in Hertelendyfalva about some 55 years ago, I think. Today she lives in Sydney, Australia. I believe that she still sings for the famous Sydney Opera. Besides, she is an excellent singer of old Hungarian folk songs and is very popular amongst people who speak Hungarian language. Most of the Hungarians in Hertelendyfalva today originate from the Székely Hungarians (Sekler Hungarians) who came to Banat from South Bukovina (today in North Romania).

I too have family and relatives in Vojlovica. My Father was born there in 1948 and some of the family immigrated to the United States around 1955. I've been studying my genaology for almost 10 years now and have compiled quite a database. Perhaps we can join forces and work together. Please contact me.
