| Introduction | I have been researching Medve, Fejes, Komyathy on my mother's side. Thank you to Janos for info on Sislocz Was able to find Diocese of Makatschewo on the internet. P. Robert Pohareczky is priest-administrator for church in Shishlivtsi. Address: Chaslivci, vul Szentmihalyi 33. Tel:( 38-0312) 730-792. Unable to speak Hungarian or Ukranian. I can read some German. Would church records be at local church or would they be with bishop. I have his address and e-mail if that would be more helpful. My great grandparents Peter and Mary Medve are thought to have been married in Hungary. I understand that Mary or Maria's maiden name was also Medve. They are thought to be cousins. Some of their children were born in Hungary and others in USA. I have seen a lot of people as listed as coming from Sislocz and also having similar names. I would be interested in their marriage date and the birthdates of their children in Hungary. I have know way of knowing if all this happened in the same place. The people who would have known have passed away. My grandmother was Mary who was born in 1900 here in USA. She had a sister Lizzie who helped her mother with the housework and my grandmother helped her father with the farming. There was a son John, a daughter Julia who were out of the house. In 1920 Mary was still with Peter and Mary. There is a son Peter and arrived in 1899 with his mother. He died as a young adult leaving three children behind. My grandmother married my grandfather Albert Fejes here in the early 1920's. Albert's parents were Samuel and Elizabeth (Mesaros) Fejes. Sam's name was listed on my grandfather's marriage certificate and in my baby book. I have no info about him. I have no record when came to USA except that my grandfather was born in 1892 in Pottstown. His sister was older and was born in Hungary. Her name was Alice. My grandfather was never in Hungary, nor was his brother Michael. They all took the name Komyathy. Alice and Albert no longer used Komyathy when they were out of the house. They both reverted to Fejes. Michael was born in Westville, IL. Julius and Elizabeth were listed as a second marriage for Elizabeth. I asked my grandfather where the family came from. He said from a little village named Buj. An Hungarian man told me that it was probably Buja. It was supposed to be in the area of a larger city which sounded like Pech, but I wonder if it was Pecs. My grandfather said that the larger city had a very short name. I would like to know more about Samuel. Do not know if he even came over here, but Elizabeth is clearly marked as a second marriage for Elizabeth. My grandfather's brother Stephen we think was shot by a sniper in Hungary. My grandfather never knew him nor was he ever in Hungary. I would be glad to share more with you, but I hope this hasn't been too confusing already Len. |
