Mark: Searching for Grandfather John (Janos?) Kiss19/04/2004, 06:50:22
Have no family info about my grandfather JOHN (JANOS)Kiss. I know he married my grandmother Anna Mihalovits and they came to America in 1904, but an unable to find their record at Ellis Island. He died in New Mexico sometime in May or June 1910, at the age of 45.

My grandmother Anna returned to Hungary for a visit because I did find a record of her returning on the Pennslyvania - out of Hamburg - on July 23, 1908. She brought back my grandfather's sister MARIA who listed as her town of origin OREGFALU (also known as Pustinis). My father and uncle - both American born - are also listed on the manifest, as well as my grandmother's little brother Illes Mihalovits. All the Mihalovits hailed from Otelek (next town over from Oregfalu) and I have a lot of info on that side of the family, but my KISS ancestors - and possible relatives here in the US - remain a mystery.

My Aunt Mary remembers something about "Alberta" as being where he was from, and for years we thought JOHN was from Albertirsa. Recent information, though, makes me suspect Csanadálberti in Csongad, near Pitvaros, as a possible town of origin.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!

Mark Joseph (for my Dad) Kiss
