mystq13: Re: Czobor07/07/2004, 06:36:18
Hello Fransisc. My maiden name is spelled Csobor. From what I have learned, my great grandfather had land in Hungary somewhere in Debrecen. He also was a hussar stationed I believe in Szombathely, near Austria. I know his first name was Janos, and he left the country in the early 1900's. He and my great grandmother Rose spoke fluent German and Hungarian. I have been trying to do research to learn more of my last name. All of his children were born in America, and there are many in New Jersey. I was told by a cousin I recently met that he also had land near the Austrian border that he left to a sister. He also stated that there were records of our name which he said at one time was spelled "Czobor", can be traced back to at least the 1600's. I do not know much more than this. My great grandmother apparently used to talk about the farm in my maiden name near the Romanian border that she and my grandfather lived on. I know that they would not discuss much else, as my grandfather fled the country to come to America. He never had papers for America. I wish to know more on this name as well, and to find descendants I know I have somewhere within Hungary, and maybe even Romania. I don't know what else I can tell you, or if you can tell me anything. If you can, I would very much appreciate it.

Danke!
Cindy Csobor-Behring
