I read you message with great interest. Although my family name is Janis and they are from Zubak, Sovakia, most hits on the name end up French. I visited the town and the old family home is 300 years old. It looks different from the rest of the architecture and is outside of the main town. I read in Mitchner's book on Poland that a lot of frenchmen received land for fighting. I have a theory that perhaps my anestors were French and possible fought in the battle of Trnava in 1704.Rakovski (sp) brought warriors down from Poland and the French were allies. However your mention of the liberation of Temesvar is a possibility. When was the battle? Someone born in the late 1600s could have come to the area to fight and build a house that is 300 years old. Do you have any records that might show who else was involved? How did you find out your family was from Flanders?
