You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research. You start the family tree with you and go backwards until you come upon the ancestor that came from the "old country".

Take a look in Ellis Island website. There was Erzsebet BASANYI that was from N. Szt. Peter = Nagyszentpeter which is in Torontal megye and at present in Romania.
The old 1910 Hungarian megye map is at:

Out of 5 BASANYIs that list in SSDI which one is your direct ancestor? You can request his SS-5Form and there should be some information that you can use to further your research.
