I am researching my family who emigrated from Raba Patona around 1910. My grandfather was Frank(Ferenc)Kaloci(Kaloczi) and my grandmother was Julia Nagy. Frank left Hungary first and waited in Wheeling, West Virginia for Julia to make the trip accompanied by her cousin, I believe, a few years later. Frank worked the coal mines, saved money and sent to Julia so she could join him in America. From Wheeling, they moved to Divernon, Illinois where Frank worked for the railroad. When the railroad closed down, they moved to Detroit, Michigan. They had a son who died as an infant and 3 daughters, my mother Christine, Isabel, and Olga. They have cousins in South Bend by the name Gyorkas, I believe. A story I once heard was that Julia's family of Nagy's was fairly well-to-do while Frank's family was not. The Nagy's forbid Julia to see him. Frank worked with horses in some way, maybe a stable boy or taking care of soldier's horses? Anyway, Julia defied her parents and married Frank, and I think was estrnged from her parents after that. In the early 1950's my mother and her 2 sisters received a letter from the Hungarian government stating that they would have to return to Hungary to claim land or it would go to the government. I have a little information about Frank's family but NONE about Julia's. Any information about either family and/or Raba Patona would be helpful. I would like to go to Raba Patona one day, but want more information before going.
