Andrew Rakaczki: Thanks!29/07/2005, 22:13:33
I was in Hungary this summer and did a little searching while I was there. I have often heard of the town of Rakaca in the Ukraine and it does appear that our name comes from this root word. But I am more interested in why so many Rakaczkis came to the Borsod part of Hungary. It seems as though all those with the name migrated out of that area. I will do some more searching for how many Ukranians still have this name. Any idea what happened that lead to the exodus? Also- in that area of Hungary their is an old slav language called Tot that is spoken by the older population. It is a Ukranian-Slav language that must have stayed with them from this early period. Let me know if you have any thoughts.

Thanks,
Andrew
