| Of course, the situation can be very complex:
1. There were/are many Romanians in Turkey, as well. Some moved there voluntarily, during the times of the Turkish Empire, or by force, when the north Danubian principalities were paying tribute in children. 2. Hungary had Cumans and Besenok - more or less Turkish populations that vanished, linguistically and ethnically, into the mainstream Hungarian nation. This website finds 2 names in Debrecen, close to the Kumania region. 3. There are names in Romanian as Cirpan and Mirza that are of some Turkish origin, after all. 4. To make things even more interesting, places in Romania (today) such as Arad, Remet, Gilad, etc., have a connection to some of Israel's place names... or not... Not sure if this helps... BTW, how far back can you go with this name for your family? And to what place? Dan | ||
