Zsolt Rakaczki: Re: Thanks!11/10/2005, 23:09:28
Hi Andrew,

I live in Budapest, but my parents and relatives live in Borsod Abaúj Zemplén county. What I know about the origin of our family name is that coming from Poland. One of our gradfather came from Poland. As I know he was a miner. The father of my grandfather is named János Rakaczki. As I know his father came from Poland. The father of my grandfather had spoken Tot.

He was in the United States between the two Word War. As I know two or three times. He had 7 children of which 3 or 4 were born in the States. Finally he came back to Hungary.

I think we should check that in the past the town Rakaca made part of Poland or not. In the past the Polish-Ukrainen border was modified and I suppose that this is the reason why some people consider it as a Polish origin name.

I don't know if there is a link between our name and the name of a stream named Rakaca in the northern Borsod.

Anyway it seems to be sure that Rakaczkis are concentrated in northern Borsod. I suppose that the second vawe reached Miskolc and other part of Hungary. In the first half of the previous century some of Rakaczkis left Hungary and settled in the US.

If you have any new information please share it with us. I will talk with my relatives to know more about past.

Zsolt
