1. There is a little village: hu: Kuntapolca, Kuntaplóca, Kun-Tapolcza, Kun-Taplocza sk: Kunova Teplica near Kassa/Kosice > Rozsnyó/Roznava > Stitnik/Csetnek. A newspaper article in Hungarian. (http://www.vasarnap.com/clanok_tlac.asp?cl=1725192) writes: "Such famous people lived here like Vietoris András, the Lutheran pastor." I am sure this Vietoris was my ancestor about 1700 (my ancestors lived in Csetnek/Stitnik), so I will research this hint. The parish register can be found at the Mormons (but they haved moved nowadays in Budapest) and somewhere in Slovakia (I think in Kassa/Kosice). I called the Lutheran chaplain, I called the man 'who knows everything about the village', I called the mayor, but they did not know, what their ancient pastor was famous for. I wrote the journalist. 2. The journalist was not sure but he thought this Vietoris had been famous for collecting music and/or songs. If so, he might be author of the Vietoris Codex. But it is possible the journalist heard this only (and there is no evidence; somebody might think so because of the names). 3. The codex is kept at the Archive of the Hungarian Academy of Science. It is a well-known work for music historians. I was suggested to look it up in different books about Hungaran codices. 4. The Lutheran University in Budapest has a register on the net about the Lutheran clerics in Hungary. (It is in Hungarian, it is difficult to use and there is not too much about a man.) Vietoris András was devoted to a pastor in 1724. I should go to the Lutheran archive to look it up. 5. I was told a codex is often named after his owner (ie not after his author). I wrote earlier that the _owner_ of this codex the "felsőhoróci Vietoris család". But I was also told that the owner was the Eszterházy család (ancient Hungarian nobles). So, the author/owner of the codex would be interesting and this question probably can be answered after some reading. 6. It is very interesting that Chris has write about the Nagyvárad/Oradea story. But it is almost impossible to find such old papers. We have only one chance: if this family has gained nobility in such ancient times. I can read and translate parish register, I know where to find them, but it is another task to find papers before the 1600's - it is for well educated historians, I am afraid. Chris, don't bother, when the father left the family in Nagyvárad/Oradea. Such ancient stories are not given from father to son - at least I think so. Your partner should say, where he knows it from. He might read it somewhere. 7. The picture from a book (that Chris sent) shows that the nobility might have been gained in 1710. I have a feeling that these Vietorises might be Catholic and they might live in Trencsén/Trencin but it is only my personal suspicion (ie no serious evidence). (Chris, this picture is too much large. I could not even print it.) But much more important: where are these pages from? It might be a known book about Hungarian nobles (Kempelen) and I could go to the National Library to find it, but it would be easier if I knew where it is from. Chris, your family is from Mezőberény. It is Békés (hu) where Békéscsaba is: see upper (2005-03-19) If your grandfather has earlier records and you can scan and send them, I probably can read and translate them. Well, Békés county is not far from Nagyvárad/Oradea. 8. I wrote many times: I should, I want etc. I really intend to do it, but I do not know when I will have time. Is there anybody here from Budapest, from Hungary? We could share the tasks... Is anybody speaking Hungarian? | ||
