Jeff,
In the Hungarian language, "W" only turns up in foreign originated words, in placenames usually in the German versions. But there wasn't any Wama, yet there is/was a Vama/Vamfalu in the old Szatmar County, today in Romania, district of Satu Mare. Is that location sounds familiar?
