Hi, Ref. to post #: 2007101648 on 29/10/2007, 04:53:57

Checking the EllisIsland Original Shipping Manifest of Irma Hodermarszky I've noticed, that Szigliget was transcribed mistakenly. The correct placename is actually Szögliget, Abauj-Torna County, Hungary, see the corrected Passenger Record below.
Her closest relative in Hungary shown sister Kaszas Kalmanne=Mrs.Kalman Kaszas in Szögliget.
Her destination was sister Hodermarszky Hermina in Bridgeport.
Her birthplace is shown what looks like Varanocserne, which could be Varrano-Csemernye/ aka Csemernye in the old Hungarian Zemplen County/ today in Slovakia. Is this placename sounds familiar to you? I just happened to handle that particular town, I copied here the Gr.Church Records location at LDS/FHLC:

1819-1895 Greek Catholic parish registers of baptisms, marriages and deaths for Čemerné, Slovakia, formerly Csemernye, Zemplén, Hungary (also called Varannó-Csemernye). Includes Juskova Vol'a, Slovakia, formerly Juszkó-Volya, Zemplén, Hungary; Vranov, Slovakia, formerly Varannó, Zemplén, Hungary and Vechec, Slovakia, formerly Vehécz, Zemplén, Hungary. Text in Hungarian, Latin and Ruthenian.

You can find Csemernye as V.Csemernye in Zemplen County blue colored Varannó(i) District marked with a number 12 in the middle, on these early 1900s County Maps of Hungary: http://lazarus.elte.hu/hun/maps/1910/vmlista.htm
