wottitz: Re: BRANKO KUNETZ 02/10/2008, 11:16:01
I agree that the wording of the Partezettel [obituary notice] in the Neue Freie Presses was misleading and open to interpretation. I wondered too whether Branko could be the son of Artur because it says in Namen [in the name of} ... Artur und des Sohnes Branko ... ie in the name of Artur and *his* son Branko... it seems strange that if Branko were the son of Gustav, surely he would be listed FIRST. Also Harold tells me that he never heard of any offspring of Gustav and Ella née LÖFF/LOEFF from Holleschau, Moravia {who was Harold's great aunt}. Sorry, I know nothing about the KUNETZ family of Agram/Zagreb and am very happy to have met them - but as Harold will tell you, I do know about genealogy of the Habsburg Empire.

As to the family name, this is always a vexed problem
another thought is that it is derived from KAUNITZ [the man and/or the the place, ie a toponymic but really it is a hidden variation of KOHN! I have a list of many of these ie when these Kohanim had to choose a name they chose one similar to KOHN.
