Ament Originator from WIM AMENT
The oldest name I could find was Peter Amende born in 1405 in Freiberg. In 1500 a Matthes Ament is born in and who has lived in Eisenach. About 1550 Mattessen Amende has lived in Monroth ?, Unterfranken in the duchy of Bavaria. In 1580 a Hans Amende is born and who lived about 1614 in Arnstadt and in 1565 a Wendel Am Endt was born in Battenburg near Bad Duerkhein in der Unterpfalz. In 1593 a Trintgen Am Endt us born in Rheindahlen near Monchen-Gladbach. And in 1619 a certain Hans Amend, called giant Hans was the father of Anna Ament who was born in Hildberghausen. Eisenach, Arnstadt and Hildberghausen are situated in todays Thuringen. |

| | | | kurt: Ament from Ajkarendek | I am thinking they might be from the Elec Hungary AMENT family. Did you check the Elec book?
The families were Donauschwaben first going to the Batschka and Banat then up into Hungary proper.
If they are related to the ELEC AMENT family they mine in Kuelsheim / Reicholzheim, Baden family. I don't have the book so I can't check. I am sure I have seen this family come through Ellis Island.
Best regards
Kurt

John |

| | | | Kurt: Re: Ament from Ajkarendek | Hello John,
No reason to be sorry I should have explained it better.
Many of the Ament family went west during the great migration period. Say the late 1700's Some went to the Batschka and Banat and some to Hungary proper. Some of the Ament family went to Elec Hungary after going to the Banat. This is a large family in Hungary Like the one in the Batschka.
They Came from Kuelheim. Which is just below Reicholzheim in Baden. Some went direct from the Spessart Forest area of Bayern, which is just to the North of Reichlozheim, Baden.
It my opinion they are all related but hard to prove. Though it is obvious that most Ament's (Amend's)came from this area of Frankonia. Probably originating in or near Fulda.
I have looked at your line before not sure there was a connection but it may be in the book that Joshi wrote on the Amend/Ament family. His main subject if I understand it right was the Ament family from Elec as that is his line.
Perhaps you can post to the "Frankonia list" on rootsweb for a look up. They might be in there.
Best regards
Kurt

| | | | Kurt: Re: Csatka | Hello again,
PETER AMENT JR. was born 09 Feb 1905 and died Jun 1982 and lived in Rochelle Park, Bergen, New Jersey, USA. It looks like maybe he married Mary b. abt 1908. She died either 1983 or 1998(?)........
In the 1930 census, his father Peter AMENT b. about abt 1875 as it would appear m. Anna H and also lived in Bergen, NJ.
I don't know what happened to Janos AMENT b. abt 1877, or if he had a middle name. He did go to Throop, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania and it looks like he applied for naturalization in 1938. He likely changed the spelling of his first name to "John". I don't know if he stayed in Pennsylvania or moved to NJ to be near his relatives, or went back to Hungary?
I hope this helps.
Best regards
Kurt

Ament Peter was born in Csatka,1874. Parents: Ament Jozsef-Szokoli Cecilia.

| | | | kurt: Re: Csatka | Hello Imre,
Well it sounds like it is the same family. Many people came to the states for work and sent there money back home. Some of them returned to the country where they were born.
Its hard to say what happened to Janos AMENT. He could have died and his wife "Anna" returned to the old country or possibly they divorced. Possibly his citizenship was denied for what ever reason. I have no idea but maybe you should find his naturalization papers.
As you must have seen by now, Mihaly (Michael) HORVATH also came to the USA and returned to his homeland at some point, as you stated he died in Csatka.
I am also descendant of the HORVATH family, but they were living in Croatia on the Danube in the early 1800's. HORVATH is a very common name.........meaning...... "Croatian".
Best regards
