peterAndruska: contact with family
Hello

Let me introduce myself, my name is Peter Andruska. I was just doing a google search on the name Andruska and your e-mail address came up. I just thought I would try and make contact with some other people with the last name Andruska. My grandfather came over to australia from Lithuania and I was wondering if you were a distant relation. If so I thought it would be interesting to exchange stories on how the name 'Andruska' came to become Austalian and American.

I look forward to your response.

Regards

Peter Andruska

Zlatica : Re: contact with family
Hi Peter

Not an Andruska but thought I reply to your post. I imagined that Lithuanian names have different ending.
Well in any case, the surname ANDRUS'KA shows up in Slovak Republic and ANDRUSZKA in Poland.

24 Andruskas and 27 Andruszkas passed thru Ellis Island to America.
You need to locate a name of a village for your ancestor in order to proceed with the research.

SID ANDRUSKA: I know we are related
Your side of the family is probably somehow related to Bobbie & Loretta Andruska in IL. We may have crossed paths at some point in time. They are my aunt and uncle.

Attila Andruska: Re: contact with family
Hello Peter,
I thuoght it might be interesting to answer at least partly to your query. I am an Andruska from Slovakia, living in Bratislava. Was born in district city called Levice which is in our understanding the center of our homeland. Andruskas are scattered in villages around the city.Though I am a Hungarian, many of the families are Slovaks, the split occured in the mid 19. century. I was told, that our gran-grand pa came over to our region from Debrecen (Hungary)as a seasonal agricultural worker, being a taylor by profession. That time (late 18.century)the whole Central European region belonged to the Austrian-Hungarian Kingdom/Monarchy, so it was not too difficult. He fell in love with a local girl and the Upper Hungarian branch of the family has been introduced.
I am quite surprised that so many Andruskas live is Australia (from 1981 my sister too)and USA, but it is good to know that the 'family' is growing.
