Laura: Re: Aufrichts
My mother's maiden name was Aufricht. She and her parents, Hilda and Richard Aufricht came to New York in 1939. They fled from Ostrava Czechoslovakia, where my grandfather was a mining lawyer. Richard had two brothers and a sister who all survived WWII, none of them had children. My mother was an only child, as am I.

Asiamaa: Re: Aufrichts
Hi Laura- What exciting information to receive. What is your mothers name. Do you know Richards brothers and sister names?. I have been in contact with Karel Aufricht from Ostrava as well, now in Detroit.I am also in contact with Alena, she is the woman that the other poster mentions a phone listing for. Karel says that all the Aufrichts from Ostrava are related , but we are stilling working on the exact connections. Karel will be making a fact finding mission in the next month or so in CZ.

Laura: Re: Aufrichts
Hi Asiamaa,
This is exciting news for me also. My mother's name was Hedda Aufricht. She passed away in 1993. Her father was Richard Aufricht, his brothers were Emil and Joseph, his sister was Greta (married name: Perlman). Emil came to New York before WWII, Joseph left Europe after WWII, Greta survived the Concentration Camps and then came to America. They all ended up in New York. (My mother came to the Midwest for graduate school in the 1950's and never went back to NY.) My grandfather Richard's parents were Irene and Moritz Aufricht. Irene was Moritz' second wife, there may have been other Aufricht children from his first marriage, but I have no information on that.
I hope this helps, thank you for your time.

Asiamaa: Re: Aufrichts
Hi Laura- You can call me Karla, Asiamaa is just my screenname. I adopted two children from Asia.

You supplied me with wonderful informtion. I will pass it on to Karel. Are you in the midwest or NY?. I live in NY.

It is so exciting to get information and possible family connections. No one knows for sure if my Great Uncles perished in the holocaust, it's just an assumption. My Great aunt didn't like to talk about it. She remembered so much from her childhood , but there was alot of pain with those memories too. Does the name Wittman come to mind ?. They were relatives I believe as Elsies records from Ellis Island show she went to live with them.

All lived in the Bronx. They were cousins of my grandmother, Teres Brodjan Balint Fine. Do you see any connection? appreciate any info you may have. Thanks

Actually my last name is Essner, not Messner. The K and M are the initials of my first name and my husbands first name.

Asiamaa: Re: Aufrichts
Hello Peter- It is very exciting to see that someone else is reasearching their Aufrict Genealogy. I just received additional information from Karel Aufricht in Michigan, USA.

He writes that the Name " Aufricht" was founded in the city of Worms in Germany about 1620. Jacob Aufricht came to Germany from Spain after the inquisitiion as he was an offical city writer. Members of his family left to the Eatsern European countries. Some to the Balkans and some to the Silesian parts of Poland, nost of his family members died in the 2nd world war. Karel as a daughter still living in the Czech Republic and a briother Thomas who lives in Aachen Germany. Karel states that he and I are definitely rel;ated, but we are still trying to make the names connection.

He wrote that his father always told him that the Aufrichts from Ostrava were related and KArel met a man many years ago by the name of Josef Aufricht who was the German ambassador to Hungary, he was born in the former Yugoslavia. The Aufrichts are also Jewish althigh some parts of the family broke away from Judaism for obvious reasons and the decendants are unaware that we are originally Jewish.

My connections to the Aufricht Family is as follows:

Maternal Great Grandparents Karl and Regine
Grandmother Ida-1898
Great Aunt- Else-1895
Uncles Ernst and Frydrych.-1903 and 1906

I hope maybe you and I can figure this all out.

Please email me at Kmessner -a-t- optonline -d-o-t- net

Your Maybe cousin-Karla

Laura Hoepfner: Re: Aufrichts
Hi Cousin Peter,

My name is Laura Hoepfner and my mother's maiden name was Hedda Aufricht (1928 - 1993, born in Ostrava, came to the U.S. in 1939). Her father was Richard Aufricht(1895-1962), he had a brother Emil(1897-1955), a brother Joseph (Peppo)(1905-1965) and a sister Greta(1903-1977). Their parents were Moritz Aufricht and Irene Katz.

Moritz Aufricht had a wife before Irene. We do not know her name. They had two daughters, Viola and Elsa. It was rumored that they had a son also, but we have no information on this. Elsa Aufricht married a man named Carl, who was a baker by profession, but we do not know his last name. Elsa and Carl had a son named Jiri who was a lawyer.

None of my great uncles (Emil and Joseph) or my great aunt (Greta) had any children. My Grandfather Richard only had my mother Hedda. My mother Hedda only had me. So my two children and I are the last of the Aufricht relatives in my family.

Karla Essner and I e-mail each other, she is a wonderful source of Aufricht information. I call her cousin even though we don't think we are related! But all Aufrichts are related, so I welcome you to the family too!

Best regards,
Laura Hoepfner
