JENNIFER:
My Babjak ancestors were from Jurkova Vol'a, in Saros Megye (county) Slovakia and adjacent villages, and my cousins and I are researching them, with the help of a couple members of our extended family. At present we have birth/baptismal, marriage & death info on relatives going back to the early 1800s and are hoping to be able to research back as far as possible.

Please reply to me via E-mail to MPetruska -a-t- lampsplus -d-o-t- com, and "cc" it to Marianne50614@netscape.com. Thanks -- hope I'll be able to be of some help in your research. (I also keep in touch with a couple un-related Babjak researchers, so even if there's no connection to my ancestors, I can put you in touch with one of the others.) Please include your E-mail address so I can reply directly to you. Thanks.

MARIANNE

Dick Babjack: Falkus - Babjak
Our grandmother Mary Babjak and brother Andrew came to Pittsburgh at the turn of the century.
Mary (b. 1889, of Falkas, Hungary, Zemplin County) married Michael Fedor (of Agyagos, Hungary, Zemplin County).
Does anyone have connections to these people and where these villages are?

Zemplen is south of where my Babjak ancestors were from, however it's possible that some of them went there from Saros [county]. Quite a few of the Babjaks among my ancestors went to southwestern PA, to P'gh area, Washington, Fayette & Greene counties.

Do you know when your ancestors came to the U.S. and if your uncle worked in one of the mining communities there? If he did, which one?

You may e-mail me directly to MMPetruska -a-t- aol -d-o-t- com

Thanks again for your reply.

Marianne50614: Re: Falkus - Babjak
Thanks for your reply.

I've got at least 1250 records (baptismal, marriage, death) already extracted for both direct and collateral relatives from Jurkova Vola and a couple of the neighboring villages.

If you know what other surnames are part of your family and possibly from that area (or other villages in Saros megye), let me know and I'll see if I have the info already extracted.

Have copy of LDS film for Jurkova Vola records at my FHC (on permanent loan there); have also been able to copy that same film to CD so I can view the records at home. Am going to do the same with 1869 census film, from which I've also extracted info.

Thanks again for your reply.

Marianne50614: Re: Babjaks-Jurkova Vola
My Babjak ancestors were from the Jurkova Vola area of Slovakia. Please contact me at Marianne50614 -a-t- yahoo -d-o-t- com if you are still researching your Babjak ancestors from that area.

Do you know the names of your Babjaks? I have an extensive spreadsheet of birth/baptismal records, another that has death records, and a third that has marriage info. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to trace the family back any earlier than the 1850s (other than the birth year info we got from the census, marriage or death records).

Hope to hear from you soon.

If you're still researching the Babjaks from the village of Jurkova Vola, please contact me: Marianne50614 -a-t- yahoo -d-o-t- com or Marianne50614@gmail.com

Though I've yet to enter all the info into a genealogy program, I have an extensive spreadsheet with info on births, marriages & deaths of the Babjaks (and their extended families) from Jurkova Vola. Contact me via email and let me know which Babjak ancestors you're researching -- they're probably related to mine.

One of my distance relatives traveled to Jurkova Vola & Vysny Orlik in May, 2007 & photographed headstones in the JV & Vo cemeteries.

I haven't checked this website in awhile, but besides the Babjaks in Jurkova Vola there was some extended family in the village now called Ploske (formerly Lapis Patak). I know that one had the double surname of Babjak-Holik. (Babjaks were my paternal grandmother's family & the Holiks were the family of my maternal great-grandmother.)

If I can be of any help, please email me at either Marianne50614 -a-t- yahoo -d-o-t- com or Marianne50614@gmail.com
