Charlie

Hi there

My name is Charlotte Balind and i am pretty sure my immediate family is the only Balind family in Australia. My grandfather Paul Balind migrated here from Hungary after World War II, where he had 4 children. I am interested in my Hungarian heritage as i don't know much about it.

Yours Sincerely,
Charlotte Balind (age 16yrs)

Zlatica : Balind
Charlotte

You need to locate a name of a town in order to proceed with the research.

www.rat.de/kuijsten/navigator
www.google.com
Hungary's phone site is at :
www.matav.hu/english/index.html
Take a look in Ellis Island website as there were 13 BALINDs that passed thru to America. You just might locate some other family members.

Charlie: Re: Balind

My Grandfather's home town was Baja, and he migrated to Australia on a ship called either the 'Fair Sky' or the 'Fair Sea' via Austria and Italy.

I am told that he has a brother named Ben.

Further to research on Paul Balind who emmigrated to Australia. I am Paul his son,(charlies dad). My father didnt talk about Hungary much but this is what I know. He came here on the Fair Sea,or Fair Sky, in 1950 I think. He was from Baja. His father was Benjamin who played guitar in a band at a local tavern.(I think the family used to own a tavern in Baja). He has a brother, Matthew, a sister Cathy, (Cathy has a son called Lotsi),and another sister who died about 20 years ago. He was a merchant seaman on the Danube during and after the war.Dad was born on June 16, 1925 (in Baja I think). I hope it helps.

Hi Paul,

I asked my grandmother she had known about Paul who went to Australia, she told me the another sisters' name was Marica. She said Paul was my great grandmothers' brothers' son. So my great grandmother was Pauls' aunt. So I think we are relatives somehow :-) Nice to meet you Paul! If you would like to know more about our family, I'll give you my contact details. Have a nice day!

With regards,

Judit

Hi Judit
Yes it would be nice to know more about the Hungarian side of the family. Its hard to find any information here in Australia. My father had four children. Paul, Vicki, Peter and Gregory.I have 3 children-one boy, Alexander(25)and two girls, Casey(23) and Charlotte(22).Vicki has four boys, Peter has a boy and a girl and Gregory two girls. If you look on a map or google earth we all live in New South Wales. My family lives in Newcastle. I'm a geologist and work mainly 700km west of home. Vicki is in Albury, Peter in Sydney and Gregory in Griffith.I remember my grandfather from when our family visited Hungary in 1972. It sounds like we are cousins. I guess you might be Casey or Charlottes age so I will pass on your message to them and they may be able to meet you on Facebook or something similar. I know Casey likes to travel and hoperfully one day we may get to Hungary. I hear its cold there at the moment. Here it is 35 degrees, sunny. Hope you had an enjoyable christmas and I wish you and your/our family a healthy and prosperous 2010.

Best wishes,

Hi Judit.I must apologise I forgot to let Casey know what I have been doing. I will bring her up to date. She would be best to communicate with as she is more computer literate than I am and quicker to communicate too. I'm heading back to work soon and wont have as easy access to the computer.I would like to see the family tree. You could e-mail it to Casey at kcbalind -a-t- hotmail -d-o-t- com .I will let her know to expect it. I'm so glad to hear from you. The world has suddenly got smaller and our small family bigger. Thanks for your effort to find our roots. Talk to you again in about 3-4 weeks. All the very best to you and family. Paul.
