Gabriele: ancestors
A Ms. Margit Barczi was the mother of my grandfather (he was born in 23.1.1898 in Vienna)
Barczihaza could have been the name of their home, her mother's name was probably Etelka, they later lived in Vienna. I know that she later in her life lived in Geneva and gave language lessons, as she spoke 8 languages.
who knows something about it pls?

Zlatica : Re: ancestors
A good locator of a town when the spelling is from the old regime or misspelled is :
http://www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm but it is not locating a town named Barczihaza. There is a town named Barcs, Barcza-pusta,Barczafels, Barczamajor,Barczatanya and Barczika in Hungary.

There were 46 people named BARCZI that passed thru Ellis Island to America.

The LDS-Mormons (Family History Center) have filmed the church records of several European countries so check out what there is for/from Vienna. The films will provide ancestral information.

The Slovak Republic's phone site
www.zoznamst.sk is listing some BARCZIs.
http://mapy.atlas.sk for location of a town in SK.

Gabriele: Re: ancestors
Hello Gergely,
sorry, I completely forgot about this site...
I don't have much more details, I only know that she was in Vienna and gave birth to a boy on January 23, 1898, and named the boy Elmar Heller (my grandfather). His father remained forever unknown. Elmar was given to step-parents. Later, his mother paid a good school in Vienna for him. When he married a girl which his "blue-blooded" mother did not accept, he broke with his mother. Beside her apparent death in Geneva in the 50-60s, I don't have any more info.
Best regards,
Gabriele
